Does anyone know of a decent hotel near Times Square that is not too outrageously expensive? Also, when is the best month to visit New York City? Thanks.

Most decent hotels in the Times Square area are fairly pricey. The area is just one of the many tourist attractions and a decent hotel will probably run you close to $200 p/night (I live in NJ, so I never had to stay over) The best time to visit NYC is in December, though it's also the most crowded and expensive. The shopping in Manhatten is great, Rockafeller Center is awesome and a horse drawn carriage ride through Central Park (especially at sundown is pretty amazing in December) It is very congested and it's tough to hail a cab, but there are so many things to do besides the above suggestions. The theater, the museums and the nighlife of NYC are all terrific and there are plenty of dining choices available. There is just something special about New York City around the holidays.

Ihad been there in New York but I cannot remember the name of the restaurant I used to visit. A room mate of mine was a German who is fond of German bread and suggested I should have a breakfast at a restaurant 1 km away from New York YMCA in Manhattan. The cost of breakfast is just $1.25 (it must be 1.50 now), lunch around $2 (2.25) and with unlimited coffee.!! YMCA also serves breakfast, but it costs $4. I met an Argentinian youth who used to tell me there is a restaunt which serves continental breakfast for $1.
