Afghanistan... Is this a silly war or what?

I have just read this story... and I am shaking my head in disbelieve. It is the story of a group of British soldiers fighting the Taleban for control of the Green Zone - a solitary strip of fertile land about a mile wide that follows the Helmand River. After 8 hours of fighting... the British finally win. But rather than holding on to it... they go back to base for a good night sleep. By next morning... the Taleban has re-taken possession of the land. Now... does anyone still wonder why we are still there after 5 years? Are they playing silly games? Maybe they do it on purpose... so that they can stay there and play silly war games for the rest of their lives. Is there something no-one has told us? Am I paranoid in thinking of a conspiracy theory? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/panorama/7071859.stm

I think it is another dirty war because USA, Great Britain and all other countries that have troops there are making their business. Consider for example that Afghanistan has no oil, but it is a strategic land to carry oil with pipes from Caucasian lands to Mediterranean sea without passing on Russian lands.

Lol, no, your not what I consider a paranoid conspiricy theorist. This was a case of horrible strategizing on the part of the commandr in chargh of the operation. I do hope he gets busted down in rank a few notches over this one and isn't allowed again to lead brave young men and women in to battle ever. Why are we still there after 5 years? Because the afgan government would like us to be. Period. There is no mysterious agenda, it's simply a war. This was never going to be eaasy or happen overnight We have become to much a society that expects instant results and to completely turn a country over from a midevil tribal rule to what ou see there today in only 7 years is nothing short of miraculous.

I gave up trying to understan the fighting in the middle east a long time ago, sometimes I think maybe they don't know themselves the reason why they are fighting it just a hate satifyer for them, they should just stop fighting and try to enjoy their lives while they have it.
