When is it too early to start Christmas shopping?

I think there has to be a limit here. I have been trying to think of what I want to get everyone on my list since about October 1st, and I actually started getting some of it during the last couple weeks in October because I found some great deals. I'm not planning on actually finishing my shopping until at least the middle of December, but I know a lot of people that will be done by then or that are very close to being done now. I just can't imagine being done so early because of the dreaded possibility of my friends and family going and buying the things they want before I have a chance to give them my gifts! So tell me, is there a limit to when you can start Christmas shopping? Have you started? How far along are you? Are you a last minute shopper? I'd like some other opinions on the subject. Thanks

I think Half of November is a good time to start. But that is in our country the limit though some christmas stuff are already in the shops in October. However i think when you're buying in the summertime it's way too early.I read about someone who bought already in spring time. That's way too early.

I know that a few people on this thread have said that they start right after Christmas! I can't imagine doing that, but when I think about how easy it would be to buy those "random" gifts that you end up giving to acquaintances or coworkers then I think it really makes sense. I have a few people that I throw onto my list at the last minute, so it would be nice to have some of those go-to gifts from the previous year's sales that I could grab and give out to those people.

I'd rather get my shopping done as soon as possible. But it depends on what my family/friends want. I like to buy the more expensive things first so I can get the money issue out of the way. ANd then slowly purchase everthing else till about mid-december... that way my shopping is out of the way.

I am the same way. I definitely think that the pricier items need to be taken care of before everything else, and then you have more room to play around with everything else you need to get. I usually focus on my close family and friends earlier in my shopping, but it's always dependent on whether I know what they would enjoy or not. If only we could always have gift lists available for them, right? I've found that by convincing people to have amazon.com wish lists my shopping has been much easier... just type in their email address and you'll have an idea of what will please them. It's really helped my parents, too, because my brother and I are always saying we can't think of what we want off of the top of our heads.

It is not too early but if you go for shopping now, you can avoid all those crowds and you might get more off season bargain which you might not get during chistmas time. Besides that you will have the satisfaction of finishing up the shopping early and can concentrate on other things in your life and prepare well for christmas.
