I am writing a story about my grandparents how they met when my grandma was only 13, my grandpa 18. At 17 my grandma was engaged to him and only a month later he got drafted into the army. But was only to be gone a year at most. But less than a month later Pearl Harbor was bombed World War II had began. For four years they wrote each other letters and sent pictures etc. But my grandfather had to burn everything every time he left a new area. MY grandma saved all her letters and pictures he sent her. They experienced heartbreak, pain, trials but through it all stayed closer than ever. 4 years later my grandpa returned to the US and they were married 7 days later. Now 62 years and still married and in love. I have all their letters, journals and after many hours of research and questioning the love birds am writing a story for them. It is more personal for me than anything but I am curious if anyone out there is interested out side of my family. Thanks.

I'm not a big fan of non-fiction myself, but this sounds like a heart felt story that shows the strength of love. There is certainly a market for this. You just want to make sure you make it interesting and just not published your grandparents letters without putting them in context. Include a war anecdote from you granddad about what was going on when he was writing the letter, that sort of thing to give the book perspective and a sense of reality. I think that if it is sensitive, honestly written and not overly mushy you'll find a publisher quite willing to back the book. Good Luck.

Well although this story is mostly Non-fiction. My grandparents couldn't recall everything from every day. So it is a mix of Fiction and Non-fiction. I take the facts and make it interesting.

i would i would i would! it sounds like a really great love story :) it reminds me a bit of "the notebook", in that they had to overcome so much to be together, and also the way you are recording their story.. i'm glad they're still together and still married at their age :) i hope that you get to finish this novel, good luck! oh, it would also be nice if you got input from other members of your family, too, of how their love has inspired or influenced their lives.. then it would be like a little family project as well :)

Thanks, so far I have still been working on the main part of the story but we all really look up to their love and life together. I know I have. Their life has been very interesting I would even consider writing more about them. After they were married and their kids were older In the 70's my grandma worked at the prison in Salt Lake City and acctually met and got to know Ted Bundy quite well. They have had interesting adventures.
