Question about categories in blog

I have had my blog up for a while but for some reason it won't let me add any more categories to my list of categories. I don't know what is going on but I do know that I could really use your help. I am using a wordpress blog with my own domain name. I don't know if I messed it up or what. If you could please help me to figure out the problem. Whenever I try to add a new category it says this;
WordPress database error: [Unknown column 'links_private' in 'field list']
INSERT INTO wp_categories (cat_ID, cat_name, category_nicename, category_description, category_parent, links_private, posts_private) VALUES ('0', 'announcements', 'announcements', '', '2', '0', '0')
0
I do not know what this means or how to correct the problem.

I wish I could help you.
I use blogger for my main blog.
I never thought I had enough know-how to create a wordpress blog.
Is there anyone you can contact at wordpress to help you out?

Well, they have a forum for technical support and other things. I am going to try to contact them through it. Wordpress is actually a lot better than blogger once you get the hang of it. There is a lot more that you can do with a wordpress blog. I have blogs on both wordpress and blogger.

I always thought that wordpress would be too challenging for me to try using since my knowledge of html isn't that good.
I have heard that wordpress is much better than blogger from many people.
