Something has to be wrong......

Well as some of you might know. I posted last Thursday about my son being so sick since school started and woke up vomiting. Well, on Friday and the whole weekend he seemed fine. But again this morning he woke up again vomiting. The last time I took him to the doctor, he said it was normal for him to be sick alot since he just started school. But I really think there is something wrong and that this is not normal. The reason why is because no one else is getting sick in the family. In general when one person in the house gets sick, someone else normally catches it. That is not happening in my family. He is the only one that keeps getting sick. So, he is going to the doctor again today and I am hoping this will be enough for the doctor to maybe think that there could be something wrong. I hate seeing him this way, plus he is hardly eating. He is turning his nose up to foods that he absolutely loves. I am afraid that if he doesn't get better and starts eating better. He might end up in the hospital. Well I leave for the doctors in 20 mins, wish me luck that we can find out whats going on.

It could very well be school anxiety. My daughter used to do that when she started kindergarten. She would always have this mysterious sick to her stomach and because it caused her such psychological anguish to go to school she would in turn really be sick. Our minds really can affect us physically.

This is the same thing that I was thinking and I was reading to see if anyone else had mentioned that. The mind is a very powerful thing. If the doctor still has nothing new to say, I would take him to see a counselor.

Well I hope he is alright. Could there possibly be a link to something that he is eating? My son was sick off and on all last year diariha. I took him to the dr like 3 or 4 times. They kept telling me it was viral. But I knew something was wrong. Well then the penut butter got recalled.... He has been much better ever since he doen't eat it anymore. Good luck Keep us posted. :-)

No I don't think it is food related. Because it hasn't always been vomiting. He's had two colds, two ear infections, one upper respiatory infection and now this is the second time he has woken up vomiting since school started in August. If it was all vomiting since school started then I would say it could be food related, but it's been all kinds of sicknesses.

I hope hes ok hun. It seems weird that it's only happening on days that he should be in school. If I was you I would sit down with him and ask him if there is anything happening at school. When there is a big problem at school some kids way of dealing with it is by being sick. And I don't mean that he is faking what I am saying is they worry themselves so much about doing certain things that their body makes them feel sick. Its their bodies way of adjusting to too much stress.

Okay it is not just happening on days that he goes to school and it is not just vomiting that he has been dealing with. This past weekend was the first weekend since school has started that he has actually felt fine. For a better understanding as to what he has been dealing with, you might want to check out my other post. It explains all the different things he has delt with since school started. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1324920.aspx

No I didn't think you were being rude. It just seems like everyone is jumping to the conclusion that my son doesn't like school and that is the reason for his sickness. So I was just aggravated, but not at you personally.

I am sorry to hear that your son is sick. You keep on being persistent with your doctor. I see children in my school who are sick with colds and ear infections for months because they are picking up everything from other children in the class. They have not been in a school environment before with so many children and their immune system cannot fight off all the illnesses yet. They get better over time but follow your mind, you know your child. I see you say that your son vomits but he was fine on the weekend then woke up vomiting before going to school on Monday? Is that right? Maybe he is very nervous and anxious about going to school? Maybe you can spend a day with him in school and see how he does? I hope your son feels better soon, take care speedy1279.

Thursday and Today are the only two times he has vomited since he started school. His other sicknesses have been colds, ear infections, and upper respiatory infections. Like I just wrote to someone else. This is actually the first weekend that he has felt fine. The days he feels fine on change every week. He gets sick seems to get over it and then boom 2 to 3 days later he's sick with something else again.

Is he in preschool? Does it only happen on the days that he has to go to school? It could be anxiety about going to school? Not sure, but since he was fine this weekend, to me that would be a possibility that I would look at to see if this could be the cause.

Yes he is in preschool, but I really don't think that is is. Like I told the person that responded before you. He absolutly loves school. He has tons of friends there. So I don't see it being anxiety.

How old is he again? You mentioned that he was fine Friday and all weekend, but this morning it started again; could it be school anxiety? Could it be he does not like the school? Kids? Teacher? Maybe someone is bothering/bullying him??? It could be psychological - I don't know... Just throwing out ideas!

He will be 5 in Feb. I know it ain't school because he loves the school and all the teachers. When he isn't feeling bad he will beg me to take him to school on the weekends. But I have to tell him that school is closed. But if he didn't like school then what you have mentioned would make alot of since. But that isn't the case. He loves school.

As much as I do see your point. It doesn't always happen on weekends. This past weekend just happens to be the first weekend he has felt fine and then sick this morning. In the past, it has been speratic as to what few days he does feel better. Sometimes its Mon to Wed he feels fine and then he's sick again. Then other times it's Wed to Fri. that he feels fine then sick again. It changes everytime. I did in fact talk to the doctor about it being the stress from school and he doesn't seem to think it is that because he says stress from school would not cause him to get ear infections and colds.

Very sorry speedy, but children often get sickness of many unique kinds. I am very hopeful the Drs will find exactly what the problem is. It could be some allaergy peculiar to him which other members of the family are not prone to.

Hi Speedy Awwwww I hope by now you back from the doctor and know something about your little man. I know you hate seeing him sick what kind of mother would you be if you didnt feel that way. He cant keep getting sick like that because he will wind up in the hospital. And no its not normal for him to be sick so much. You might want to consider another doctor. Let us know how he is. Im worried about him. Hugs!

I don't think I have much to add that hasn't been said already but I sure do hope he gets feeling better soon or that the doctor can at least figure out what is going on with him. Just a shot in the dark kind of thought...are other children at the school having similar problems? Maybe there is an environmental link from something at the school...mold, asbestos, chemicals...and that is why he gets better on weekends. Even if it is only your son, he could be just super sensitive to something.

If you don't have any luck with the doctor this time, maybe find a different doctor. Another thing that could help is keep keep a diary. Write down as much as you can, all day long. Such as- Environment (where is he), Emotions (what is going on), Food (what he has eaten), Clothing (what is he wearing)... you get the idea. Maybe then you'll get some more info together for another doctor. It could be something simple like an allergy to laundry soap, or maybe even a food problem like dairy or gluten intolerance. What ever it is I hope your little guy is OK!! Good Luck :)

Hi there, sorry to know that this is happening to your son. Aside from vomitting, did your son also feel dizziness, nausea? If he did, I guess it is vertigo. A person who's sufferring from vertigo experience dizziness as if everything is turning around and then vomits a lot, there's cold sweat, the body is perspiring a lot. I had vertigo last days of October to Nov 3 and those were what I had felt or experienced. The doc said it the result of some imbalance in parts of the ear, especially if there are some ear infection. If its not vertigo, then it must be some trouble with his eyes, probably he needs eye glass. But its better for you to send your son to the doctor and have him examined so that he will be given proper medications. Hope your son gets well soon.

wow my son has been the exact same way for the last three weeks. Only he has the diahrrea as well. He'll be fine on friday and than by sunday hes like all blah again. He home from school again today. And its got me thinking that theres something wrong at school and that its his nerves that has him this way. Although he keeps telling me that nothing is wrong. The doctor has put him on stomach medicine but it doesn;t seem to be working (except on fridays and saturdays) which is why I think its his nerves. Hope all goes well on your end at the doctors today. Hope your son is feeling better soon

Please ask you doctor to check your child for roto virus. I am sure that is what he has my child had the same symtoms, it went on for 3 years off and on until I had him checked for allergies once on the allergy shots he no longer got the roto virus. whenever he had it his symtoms would range from vomiting to diarrea or fever. sometimes he ran a fever other times diarrea and vomiting sometimes just the vomiting. His allergies to mold spores in the air, food, outdoor smells is what triggered the virus.

Did he also get colds, ear infections, and upper respitory infections? Because those are the other things he has been battling off and on as well. It hasn't just been vomiting. This is only the second time he has had the vomiting.

so sudden loss of appetite then vomiting. what other symptoms has he shown? fever and colds perhaps? it could be psychological as what the doctor previously mentioned how about stress? you did mention he just started going to school. perhaps he's not used to such stress (chances are still a bit slim) how long ago has been he been sick? is there a pattern to his sickness (i.e. has a fever for a 2-3 days then gets better than back again) anyway, we can't really tell for sure since we are basing our advice merely on what you mentioned. the best option is still to take him to a doctor. if the doctor still says its normal and you are still suspicious, you should get a second opinion there is a well known case that happened before in which doctors kept on insisting a certain child was affected with a particular disease (some rare disease with treatment similar to cancer - chemotherapy) and wanted to go on that course of treatment. fortunately in that particular case, the mother was persistent and ultimately convinced other doctors to look at other causes. long story short, her son was afflicted with severe malnutrition not the rare disease doctors had insisted upon you are the parent, you are usually the one in the best position to know if something is wrong with your child. if you are convinced something is right, pursue that until such time your doubts are cleared
