Rats in my room is making me restless help me kill it

Hi friends,
Am put up in a hostel and there are rats in the room thats troubling us.I am not scared of it and hence i didn't really mind it visiting our rooms :) but recently we realized it had spoiled many of our bags and things go missing in the room..AM fed up with these for the past few days give me some good idea to kill it ..If we try keeping that rat killers it would eat and die inside the room so anyone with any other ideas?

Have you tried a fly catcher. It is like a sticky piece of paper. Try to put them strategically, and rats (only tiny ones though can be caught). Try also having a pet cat at home. You have to tame them first though. :)
