External hard drives

I just bought an external hard drive for my computer. Does anyone know anything about these? Are they safe for data? Do they last? Is it a great thing to have?

reliable, yes. safe for data, yes. great thing to have, yes, if you don't mind carrying it around.

do they last? ..just don't drop it. c",) ..and keep the cable end clean. if possible, protect all exposed sockets and plugs from dirt and rust.
