i am replacing the front brakes of my automat icSubaru Impreza 2004 1.6cc every 4 months.I have owned cars for the last 30 yrs and never had this problem. Can anyone explain what the problem could be since my mechanic says he cannot find the problem and some of these cars seem to be like this.

One of the maintenance items that most car owners do not do is to clean and adjust their rear brakes. When the rear brakes are out of adjustment, that causes most if not all of the braking force to be applied to the front brakes. The braking system was not designed for this added stress and will cause the front pad to wear out faster as well as the front rotors to overheat and warp. After you adjust your rear brakes (or replace them if needed) you will notice that your brake pedal will be higher when pressing down and firmer when braking. You should need to adjust your rear brakes approx every 30K miles. Note this is referring to drum style rear brakes.

on some brake pad backing plates there are alignment rivets . If the inner pad is placed on the outer side of the caliper the rivets will not line up causing the pad to ware on a angle reducing the life of the brake pad. Mighty auto parts sent out a flyer to make sure these pads were being installed corectly and the flyer covered several brands of cars. Hope this helps, Ray

Brakes - Brakes
Has your car been in a wreck in the past? Ive seen that on other cars where the frame get unaligned and just goes through brakes like crazy.

Well...I think the logical explanation on this is...You're car is really old,and alot of the things that are up in you're car to help hold the brake, and keep it like it is supposed to be..Are worn out,and you will proably have to wind up replacing the whole thing...Which will cost more money, than to just get you A new car.
