to me ability is all everything of a person. even a super star who have a good appearance but it will only last for a few years , if he or she have low ability and can do little thing , he or she will be kicked of the stage.
Appearance like the way u decorate the house. one may say that the house is so good but the ability like the foundation. one may not choose to live in a beautiful house with poor foundation.

Hello fannylao.
I do think ability is most important because I finding a job to work not to flirting or else. My employer want to see my work done and help their company well. So there is no reason for an employer to look for appearance workers although they can't do the work will given. How could they be succeed in their business.
If I was the boss first I will look for the ability because I am going to pay them. The appearance will be the next.
HAPPY LUCKY.

I think ability is more important, but I guess employers also consider appearance when it comes to hiring someone who will be working for them. When I say appearance I mean the over-all look of the person -- he or she doesn't necessarily have to be good-looking, but he/she should be at least presentable and not sloppy. It also depends on the industry that the employers are in. But I really think ability is more important in most of the career paths because employers really don't get much out of good-looking people without any abilities.
