I'm always interested to hear peoples views on this breed and whether or not they would ever consider owning a pit bull. Supply some reasons for your answer. Perhaps you believe that they are a naturally aggressive breed and could turn at any time, therefore refuse to own one. Maybe you believe that they act the way they do based on training and environment and therefore have more confidence in the breed. Either way, we're not here to judge just to share views! So go ahead and do so...:)

No. I wouldn't consider it for my family. My sister had a pit bull and loved it. He was a nice dog. But I wouldn't have one for my family. My oldest son was bitten as a small child and he has a fear of dogs. We have dogs in the back yard and he basically ignores them. But with a pit bull I'd be afraid that it would sense his fear and it could cause the dog to act on it. The golden retriver that we had would bark at him, but back down if my son told her to back off. I don't think a pit would.

I have a dog but not a pit bull. The reason why I would never want to have a pit bull is that I think they are agressive and that I could not change it. I think it's their nature.

I am torn on this topic. I think that it mostly just depends on the way a pit is raised. I also know that all dogs have natural instincts. I know that if i were being attacked, my lab would defend me, and might attack. So i think its in all dogs, and a risk you take with any medium to large sized dog. So I dont know, I would probably own one, but I dont see changing my preferences. How do you feel about pits?

I would have a pit bull. I think that dogs like people have good and bad in every race and species. I think if trained by idiots they can be aggressive and mean but I have seen evil poodles too so I think it is the owner more than the breed in most cases.

The dog is what the owner turns it into so they're no more or less bad than any other dog. It's all about the training given. I would consider getting a pitbull but I don't think it's very likely I will get one. They're just not very common where I live, and there are too many breeds I would prefer to have over a pitbull. Wouldn't have space, money or time to own them all.

yes, i guess i'd like to own one if i can. i believe that all the animals can bring people happiness if people look after them with love and train them by heart. but still be careful if you really own a pit bull, after all it's a pit bull not a meek kitty. happy posting!by the way ,it's my first time coming your discussion, feeling great!

I know that you have a pit bull mix, and as you said he is gentle.I have heard pro's and con's about pit bulls..Personally, i have never been interested in owning a pit bull, its just not my breed of dog, they are pretty but i prefer a much smaller dog.I have a very small lap dog,and i can just scoop her up with one hand.It is just my husband and i and we have a small place, and a couple of acres, but it is not fenced in.My dog stays inside and is easy to care for because she is small.I do not think i would like any larger dog regardless of its breed. When my kids were small and we had a bigger place and a fenced in yard, they had big dogs, but at this point in my life i prefer a small dog.

The pit bulls I have met have been great dogs. However, I wouldn't own one because of the reputation they have. Unfortunately that reputation had to have come from somewhere, and I just wouldn't want to take a chance of my family or anyone else getting hurt by the dog.

My brothers have owned pitbulls in the past and our two dogs were well trained and maintained. They were not aggressive or out of control at all. I think that it depends on the enivornment you train them in. But me personally now, I have 3 small girls and I would be afraid to have one right now.
