Thanksgiving Day Traditions

Do you and/or your family have a Thanksgiving day tradition? My family has a tradition that before anyone can eat everyone must say atleast one thing from this past year that they are thankful for. It kind of bites since my Father-in-law is a crab-a$$ that is not thankful for nothing, although of all people he gets the most, so every year we sit for 20 mins, with our food, waiting for his traditional thankfulness although he can never say thanks for nothing. ~~~~~~HAVE A GREAT DAY & HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!~~~~~~

That sounds like a great idea as nomatter what your faith or lack there of may be it is good to remember atleast one thing that you are thankful for. Mrs. Mee and I instituted this because people b1tch, moan, and belly ache about everything all year long so we figured that it would be good for us to remember atleast one thing we are thankful for atleast once a year. So, inorder to eat the wonderful Thanksgiving day meal we must state atleast one thing we are grateful for and it cannot be a blanket cover like "I am thankful for life." since that will not work as it takes no thought but, "Well, you all know how my health has been for the last couple years so I am thankful for still being around for yet another year with you to celebrate yet another wonderful Thanksgiving." That would do as it is thoughtful and heartfelt. With Ramadhan being a month of worship and contemplation it would be a wonderful time to institute this as being greatful not only to Allah but also to your fellowman and family would make it a WONDERFUL tradition that can be passed down through your family for generations, not to mention that it may become contagous and others may follow your lead. Think of it, a month of being thankful to Allah, friends, family, nature, everything. Wow what a wonderful idea! As I truely believe this would help strengthen family and community ties. See at times us parents feel unappriciated (talking of my situation) and it feels like nothing we do really matters then when this time of the year comes and our kids actually speak of something we did, it really boosts the spirit. Now think of this in a community level, RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS. Well my friend I wish you a Blessed Ramadhan (I know I am late as it was in September or early if you are looking twords next year) and I thank you for the response. ~~~~~~HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!~~~~~~

We don't have any traditions. I guess my husband and I should make more of our own traditions, really. We don't spend time with either his family or mine (for very good reasons) and so on holidays we are either with friends or just our own little family (with our son). So we don't have many of those types of traditions yet, though I'm sure as years go by we'll make more.

That would be so very nice to be able to start your own traditions and hopefully your son will continue them after he has a family of his own. The tradition of saying something that you are thankful for started with mee and Mrs. Mee. We have the father-in-Law that lives with us for medical reasons, and four daughters. I hope that they will continue this tradition with their own families when they get older. Thank you for responding and have a great day!! Happy Thanksgiving!!
