In my culture, there are a lot of sayings going around. Like if you comb your hair in front of the mirror at night, your house would be haunted. And naming children after their parents or grand parents is considered bad luck! Big difference, huh? I try not to believe any of these. But once you know these sayings you just can't help thinking about it...

we have those sayings in our country, too (philippines). but we don't usually believe in these stuffs. we hear them from people but we don't get too serious about them.

Same here. We hear all kinds of saying about ghosts or bad luck. People of my age tend not to believe in all those sayings, but elder people firmly believe that if you do something wrong, something bad is gonna happen.

Don't be misled by the woman. It was not the cat who cause the accidence but the superstitious woman and her mind. People who are superstitious are sometimes very very dangerous especially on the roads. When it's Friday the 13th they are so scared, but it's all in their heads and they drive too carefully and they focus too much on the date or cats or ladders and they are causing the accidents themselves. So please don't fall for a story like that for it is her own fault she got into an accident. That's why it's called superstition. It doesn't excist but it's all in the mind of someone. And sometimes things happens by coincidence but also because of human mistakes which could have happened anytime anyplace and anywhere.

I have no superstitions worth mentioning. Previously I used to believe in the cat one too. I used to stand on one side of the road and wait for someone to pass before me if ever a cat crossed my way. the worst part was in the afternoons, when the roads are mostly empty. However, my husband got pretty irritated everytime we went out together and the cat crossed my way. he had to wait alongwith me till someone crossed the road. Then one day he just started walking, saying that since he does not believe in all such rubbish, he would better be the person to cross the road first and I could follow him. I did so for many times but then one day I started thinking that if indeed it was bad to cross the road after a cat has crossed it, I should not put my husband in danger by letting him cross before me. I could not be so selfish. After that I stopped believing in this and just walk through no matter how many times the cat crosses the road.

She got into the accident in the first place because she was trying to avoid crossing the cat. The accident had nothing to do with a bad omen or bad luck. I don't believe in that susperstitious nonsense.

You'd wanna hope the cat that crossed her path was black otherwise she's probably a nut! I don't mean to seem rude but it has to be a BLACK cat or it's no longer superstision, it's just someone who is freaking out over nothing. You cant think there is anything creepy about a cat crossing your path - what do you think happens in a pet owners home - i have 3 cats here plus 4 new kittens, i can assure you, they all cross my path a LOT during the day & i have never had any 'bad omens' or anything happen. This includes 1 of the kittens being black so maybe superstision is just people finding an excuse to worry about nothing or believe in old wives tales!

Up to this day, we Filipinos still cling to the numerous supertitions that we have. Even if it sound ridiculous and have no scientific basis. Maybe because of the attitude "there's-nothing-to-lose-if-we-comply". Some of the superstitions that I know relates to weddings like: *Brides shouldn't try on her wedding dress before the wedding day or it will not push through. *The groom who sits down before his bride does during the wedding ceremony will be henpecked husband. *It is considered bad luck for siblings to marry within the same year.

i don't think there is nothing wrong with being superstitious for as long as you are not being crazy over it. i am superstitious at some parts but not to the extent that i will just base my whole life and my whole future to these beliefs. i wear something with dots (like a blouse, or a dress) during the new year's eve. they say that when you wear something dotted while meeting the new year, you will be financially lucky the following year. it's not really 100% true. but it's fun doing it. plus, it doesn't really hurt to wear something with dots anyway. like they say that it's not good to take pictures of just three people because the one in the middle will die soon. but i don't really believe it. i had so many photos taken with two friends and we're all okey after all these years. anne

Superstition is how we usually call a thing we feel might hurt us in the future, especially in the near future. Only a few of us talk about a premonition of something good happening. Isn't it a little odd? I think it is...i really do. There is no bad intended cat, and it's not her fault that she's black... the ladder under which you SHOULD NOT pass it's not there just to be in your way and ruin your day...and so many things are just pure coincidence. And one more thing...it's about auto-suggestion...wouldn't you think that?
