With the major shopping season here a lot of parents are fighting to get their kids the perfect gifts. I'm curious what others are planning to get, or have gotten already, their kids for gifts this year? Mine both got wooden bucket/pails to carry stuff around in, sleigh bells, and books. My oldest is also getting a handmade small drum, and my youngest is getting a wooden push toy.

We dont over do it when it comes to buying presents, because we dont believe that is what it is all about. We do some gift giving, just not a lot. I am getting my kids a family membership to the YMCA for sure. We always do a birthday party for Jesus, with a cake. It is fun and put things into perspective. We do a lot of things with family and outings.

That's cute! I love the Christmas party idea. WE're not Christian, but it's still a cute idea. :) I agree not to go over board, it's not the gifts that should matter. Not like some who max out their credit cards shopping, shopping, shopping for gifts.

Nope, have not even thought of Christmas presents yet for our son. He has made a list though and written a letter to Santa including the list he did and I have it hidden in my drawer. When my husband gets back from his work trip to Thailand late Dec, them we will pick a few from the list to buy. Money is tight this Christmas because of our trip to Rarotonga next year for his sisters wedding so as long as he has a few pressies to open up on the day, that will make him happy. I know he has asked for a puppy and we have told him that he is not responsible enough to have one yet. All I know is that once we get one, I will be taking care of it and not him because he will be at school.

I've seen a lot of cute ones for aobut $30 (US) But those ar often plastic and probably not safe. A good wooden one would probably run around $50 or more, unless you know someone who is crafty with wood! LOL

That's not always true, a lot of toys are now being made in a strong & durable plastic, it makes things cheaper for the parents but they all pass safety tests before they can be put on the shelves. If you see one on the shelf in a store, then it has been approved by the American Safety Standards board & will be fine to buy for your child!

My little pumkpin is getting a few things this year (not as much as last year though) so far we have a Winnie the Pooh pillow that opens in to a book, a 'Little People' barnyard set that has animals with sounds, there's a baby My Little Pony that talks when you squeeze her foot, a couple of DVDs, heaps of little board books, plus on lay-by (we have until Xmas Eve to pay it off & pick it up) we have the large part of her Christmas gift, it's a boat sandpit! Basically there's a sandpit part in the middle, a bench seat at the back & a storage section at the front - it even has it's own canopy! That's from us, i know my Mum went a little crazy this year!

This year is tight for everyone. My kids are grown now. we always give each other nice gifts, but don't go overboard. I have already done my shopping. My daughter wanted oriental pictures for her bedroom walls. I got her an oriental vase as well. My son said he needed a new coffee pot and coffee thermos. I also got them each a cloth calendar from the dollar store. This year I really did not get my grankids a bunch of stuff either. I crocheted a blanket for my 11 year old grandson, plus I made him and his sisters slippers. My 8 year old granddaugter is getting a radio/cd player, and my 5 year old granddaughter is getting a jogging outfit and a package of socks. I wanted to get more, but I'm still re-cooping from moving.
