I like the term "social camouflage"... pretty creative. I think that every should indeed find some meaning to their life, other than living it for their own sensory gratification 24/7. I am not saying to live a mundane exsistance or live a simple life without matierial posessions that make you happy... but there should be time when you do give back to others, or even just make time to be a friend. Many people think that it is noble to live in poverty and give everything you have to those in need... but I do not agree that it is good practice to sacrifice everything for the benefit of others. You should have the same respect and love for yourself as you have for others. I think to some degree, we all are "camouflaged". No matter what social group we idenitify with, (even if it is none), we are still like many others. There is always somebody else out there who likes the same music as you, who dresses like you, and who enjoys the hobbies that you do. Whether we like to admit it or not, we are a collaboration (partially) of our experiences and the people around us. Everyone is of course, an individual, unique in a million ways, but we should focus more on what brings us together, instead of setting us apart. I think by doing this we can break out of the "social camouflage". It really comes down to appreiciating your own life, then you can appreciate other's similarities and differences. We are all camouflaged... there are so many people who cannot speak up for what they want or what they believe in. Those like myself that are living in America have been given a great opportunity to take a stand and to have the freedom of expressing oursleves in endless ways. We can't always be rebels or be the hero, but everyday comes with a new opportunity to slowly and steadily making a better future for ourselves and others. Use your time wisely, and you'll be sure to stand out in the crowd... I guarantee it ;-)

Yes, i agree with you. This is what we always wanted, and now, more than ever we have the chance to do it. We have the opportunity to get "visible" in many places (I mean really many places) thanks to the internet. And not only... It is a general accepted thing about us that we all have something special...Why wouldn't we let the others know what is our "specialty"? It can't be but a constructive thing if you know how to put it! So...why not, good idea!

dear K...here's something to ponder...a man goes into his wardrobe closet and takes a dress suit and cuts all the pockets off of it, and then hangs it back up...so the next time that he goes into that wardrobe closet he sees that suit with no pockets in it...because he knows whether or not he is an old man or a young man...there's no difference when you are laying in your coffin, the final and last suit you will wear will have no pockets to take anything with you...so what then can you do with this little lifetime here on earth...all you can do is GIVE IT AWAY !!!that's all you can really do here...stanzi

Well, it's not like we should leave something behind (i'm to young to think this way), but visibility can give you some satisfaction...that's for sure! Thanks!

Hi stanz! Great topic and the other posters really made their point well and have voiced their own opinions. I am a very trusting person, shy at times but have always kept my conscience at heart. There are times that i conform with society and there are times that i am a non-comformist. Society can not dictate me what is right or what is wrong, only my conscience does most of the times. I respect others opinions because i know that they may be right and i don't know everything and i can learn from them. I am open minded and i am not a judgemental person. it may seems sometimes that i go with the flow but that does not mean i don't have a mind of my own. I just want to discover things and rediscover them once again. In the world that i live, i know i have put my own stamp. My stamp may not be as beautiful or as popular as others but i know deep in my heart that stamp has been carried in the hearts of the people i touched. I try to make a difference in each day even how small it may be. Just my thoughts and always take care my friend. Have a nice day. :)

dear faith YOUR STAMP i have found is as pure as the first fallen snowflakes on the summit of Mt. Everest, sweet friend..i love how you put, "i just want to discover things and REDISCOVER them once again", how poetic is THAT, you're like a lotus flower that opens up and gets deeper in meaning as you REDISCOVER deeper meanings to life...your friend 4ever...stanzi

I like to be in camouflage in my day to day life. The only time I am vocal really is online. However if something is really important to me I have been known to voice myself very well about certain situations.

dear vicki...that's good that you voice yourself...our lives are very short indeed, and we must leave something behind...stanzi
