Plant trees instead of sending Christmas cards this year

Every year many people send cards to people that they see quie regularly, and the end result is a lot of expense, a lot of mess and a whole lot of waste paper, not all of which can be recycled. What we do, is every year we have at least one tree planted, and let all our friends know that instead of a card, they have a 'share' in a tree. Its much nicer than sending yet another overpriced mass produced card, and you can save cards for those very few people who will truly appreciate it. Does anyone else do this?

or if you absilutely must send cards, try sending postcards instead, or how about an 'e card' to a friend or loved one, its fast, cheap and uses much less paper!

I used to send Christmas cards every year to a lot of people, but I've really given up on doing that. I'd rather not waste the money on ever rising stamps, and use all of those cards and envelopes when I just could send a electronic christmas card. Some people like the paper versions, but really, as long as you think of them, what is the big deal?

LOL! I answered your other post before this one... what a coincidence! My Pop started the tree-as-gift tradition in our family 40 years ago, and we're continuing it... this is the best time to plant them here. I send cards, but I don't feel wasteful, because I make all my cards, and from recycled paper... I make that as well! I decorate them and the books I make with scraps and ephemera that I can't bear to throw away. My rooms only APPEAR to be full of 'junk'!
