Raising money to volunteer abroad

I am a sophmore in college and I would really like volunteer abroad in the summer, but all of the programs I've looked at are pretty expensive. You have to pay for your own flight which is a pretty hefty cost since it is international, also you have to pay the company you go through a pretty significant amount not to mention passport and medical costs. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to raise enough money to volunteer abroad, or any recommendations for places or programs?

It's great that you want to help people who are less fortunate. The cost for these overseas trips is usually outrageous. It is possible that a local church in your community may be sponsoring something like this and you could join their group on a trip abroad. Sometimes the church will help pay for the trip. When you call, ask for the missions team leader. Hope everything goes well for you.

how about having a community garage sale with the money going to you? or make some sort of something like candles or bracelets? my daughters made bracelets which made about $100- which went to our youth for the missions trip to mexicco
