what is in your opinion the cause of military conflict in the present day?

That's a pretty simple equation, really: powerful, well-funded white guys have taken to picking on a lot of hot-headed, minimally educated brown people because even though they don't have a lot of money or education, they're sitting on a very lucrative commodity and we, as Americans, are doing what we've done from our country's inception: taking it by force. It's what we do best. We took this nation's land by force, right? Either that or we hoodwinked a few uneducated red people into giving it up of their own volition for next to nothing and for literally nothing of value.
