How to help a friend with cancer?

Today I got the shock of my life when an old friend of my boyfriends knocked at my door. She told me that she had been looking for him everywhere for a long time because she really needed his help. I understand her pain because she has no family here in the United States and she is all alone. Well...I invited her in and she told me she had cancer and she really looks bad because it's taken over her entire body. It was the first time I sat next to someone in this condition and looking the way she did with her illness covering her entire face. I want to do something to help her because she can't work. I was thinking about a fundraiser of some type to help her pay bills but I need ideas on how to raise the most money. Do you have any?
