Character- what does you country's character say about it?

Character, in the long run, is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of nations alike. -- Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President (1858-1919) The above quote was one I found today. It really got me thinking. We all know that our individual chacter says something about us, but what about that of our country? If other people were to look at the country you live in, what do you think they would think about it? Is your country's character one you are proud of?

Hhhhmm, character of my country? We are pretty laid back here in Australia, but still seems to be a lot of hustle and bustle in the big cities. our government does a lot to keep us non pollies happy and to preserve our native history and wildlife.

A laid back society would be nice. I wish we could have that here for just one week. It would be nice for everyone to just kick back for a bit and recharge their batteries. I bet that would change a lot of the bad that is happening here in the US.

Maybe then it is time for a change of pace. i'm sure we could hide you under the house! lol. I am very lucky to live in such a wonderful country. It breaks my heart to hear that others aren't as lucky. Most of the time, I bury my head in the sand and try to ignore what is happening, but you can't really. America really needs to look at where its priorities are! I'm sure the economy will crash if it keeps going the way it is!

hehe..Chinese character.I think both of the language and the personality.what a coincidence:)Maybe the language also says something about a nation. There are fewer conjections in Chinese than in English to show the logic realtions of sentence elements.and i think this fact shows that there is a kind of introversion in the Chinese character.people don't let everything out on the street.this may be one of the shortcomings of the Chinese character.but the story also has the other side.Chinese people are generally hard-working,friendly,understanding and sensitive. But what i have said above is only a mere drop in the ocean.it's really hard to conclude a nation's character in just several sentences.anyway,i am proud of being a Chinese.i love my country and her culture. well,in writing this post,i've found difficult to express the Chinese character in Enlish.it may be that any nation's character is closely integrated with its langugae and using a foreigh language to express a native idea is somewhat impossible. hehe..you have really got me thinking a lot:)thank you for your topic.

Thank you for sharing. It is really neat to see someone so proud of their country. China sounds like a really neat place. I hope that some day I will be able to visit there. I think you have an interesting point about the language. I think language (or at least how we use it) does have a link to our culture.

yes, i love my country and i'm proud of my countrymen. many people especially foreigners say that my country is dirty, has many corrupt government officials and other sorts of negative adjectives. but i'm proud to say that i'm still proud of my country. it boasts of beautiful beaches, beautiful people who are generous, hospitable, God-fearing, always have a ready smile even if carrying big problems, etc. i'm proud of my countrymen who has bring pride to my country in the international scence. and i'm proud of my country and countrymen because it has contributed a lot to your country during the world war 2. if other people look otherwise to my country, i shouldn't add insult to injury so, to say. my country has give me life and land to live to. i'm proud of my heritage.

That is so cool that you are proud of your country, red. It is even more cool that you are proud of the people that live in your country. I wish I could say the same to be honest.
