I just had to share this. I have been reading the article and the blogs about the class that names the bear Muhammad and the teacher getting punished (shouldn't they have punished the kids? they named the bear and it wasn't even after the profit! They names the bear Muhammad because the most popular kid in the class is named Muhammad). She should not have been punished because she isn't Muslim and why would anyone think naming a bear Muhammad would be bad? They name their kids Muhammad, isn't that insulating to their "prophet"? I digress. I ran across this quote and I just had to share: "Apparently, naming a cuddly bear Muhammad insults the prophet, while mass-murdering homicide bombers named Muhammad don’t." http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,314401,00.html

The kind of people who were out in the streets calling for Gillian Gibbons to be executed LOVE mass-murdering homicide bombers, so what do you expect? They probably wouldn't mind calling the teddy Mohammed if it had a bomb in it, but cute fluffy things are not what they're about. The ironic thing is, those people are as ignorant of her culture as she is of theirs. She is of an older generation and when she was growing up in the UK, there wasn't the large Muslim community we have now and people didn't know a lot about Islam. They assume that EVERYBODY knows all about their religion and that she must therefore deliberately have set out to insult them. But that's just not the case. At least she made the effort to overcome her ignorance through travelling and talking to people of other faiths. I doubt the people yelling for her to be punished will ever learn about the world outside their mosques.
