I just received a scam of all scams in the mail today.

I received a letter telling me that I just won $120, 000.00 dollars in a Ontario Gaming Prize pool. This was held on Oct 30th. They sent a check real looking check for $4,950.00 and said to cash this check and then send them $2,985.00 by money gram or Western Union. This is for Processing fees. WHAT A SCAM! If I did this then I would end up owing the bank $4,950.00, because this check is bad. I hope people are not falling for this. Has anyone else had this happen? I just let everyone know that this is floating around and to beware.

I am holding on to somewhere around $10,000 in bad checks because I was a dumba$$ for believing such things. But, I had a friend at my bank (the manager) and asked if they were real before trying to deposit and withdraw. If you are actually scammed, you can report this to the FBI and other agencies with this link... ... http://www.ckfraud.org Good luck!!

Sadly this is pretty common. I'm glad you realized it before ending up owing the bank money.

What a scam. I am glad you did not fall for it. These have been around for quite a while and I guess there are so many gullible people out there who fall for it and loose money. I am glad you posted this, so people can once again read it.

I did receive a check in the main to be a secret shopper and it said to make a money gram transfer as well. All that I would get to keep for myself was $300.00. I tried to cash it at the bank and they wanted to check into it. About a week later they said the check was returned. It is a good thing I did not get it cashed and spend the money!
