They're back!

Cultists may be a thing for California, but unfortunately they're plaguing the east coast as well, from Florida and even as far north as Connecticut. While the Jehova's Witnesses do not appear to be a dangerous cult like one that hypothetically goes around proving how dumb celebrities can be, they sure are belligerent. Now they do have some positive sides. For starters, even though it's been over a month, they're the only ones who ever visit me, even though its only to cram my home full of more Watchtowers. They also communicate with me as though they actually do have invested interest in who I am. They don't obviously, as the only reason anybody wants to know "who" someone is is so that they can target them with their shameless ads (Google, anyone?). Of course I'm not THAT stupid, so obviously I can tell they're not coming over to play Super Mario Galaxy with me, and if I join their silly religion they'll take away all of my video games and my smut and I won't get to celebrate Christmas anymore (Christmas being a Winter holiday during December which encourages goodwill towards all, as opposed to the holy-roller gibberish which isn't for everyone). The question then, is this. Why me? No, really. Why are proselytizing religions coming knocking at my door in pairs, grinning stupidly and reading Bible verses at me? Why do they never read Ezekiel 23:19-20? I'm just not the kind of guy who should be victimized by these people. Throughout my short life I've spent much time playing Nintendo with friends and watching obscure TV shows. Where do Bubble Bobble and Dale Cooper fit in with commercialist religions? The answer I have is that they have no place. Yet still they keep coming because video games and Twin Peaks don't provide any sort of barrier for me. Yet these people have no place in my life. They have no place in the lives of people like me. There is no room for religions demanding converts nor monthly jury duty notices nor warmongering nor insecure redneck political aggression. These things are all jokes; afterthoughts. What truly matters to me is my friends who enjoy a bout of Animal Crossing or a walk through the snow or viewings of obscure campy DVD movies. Please do not come to my door again. You're not real. You have no business here with your religions or your selective service or your fund raisers or your criminals. I may be alone, but there are others out there like me, and we DO have lives we're going to live. We're not going to be bullied by your socio-political shenanigans any longer. Go away. I am going to watch 'Gojira' now. Thank you.

I am a Jehovah's Witness. We come around because we really do care about people, believe it or not. The purpose is not to just fill your house with magazines! As for computers, I work on them for a living. I play video games, watch tv and movies, and if you met me on the street I doubt you would think me other than an average person. Exekiel 23:19-20 could be taken rather offensively, and we don't come around to offend. We don't ask you to change your religion, we come to encourage you to read the Bible, and offer free bible study courses at your convenience. If you ever see one of us promoting something that is not in the Bible, I would really like to know. The reason we go house to house is because we follow the example of paul in Acts 20:20. If we offend you, just tell us to not come back and we won't. Sorry that you have been disturbed by the visits. You can call the local Kingdom Hall and give your address and ask not to be visited again and then they won't come around again. It's that easy. Peace, Lynda

"If you ever see one of us promoting something that is not in the Bible, I would really like to know." This made me giggle, for some reason. I envisioned a Witness coming around and reading bible verses, and then saying "and while I'm here, could I interest you in some Ginsu knives?"

lol @ the ginsu knives! (joke): How do you keep Witnesses away from your door! A: Draw a chalk outline of a body on your front sidewalk and scatter some Watchtowers around it! Sorry, this thread made me think of that joke!

Dude...lol...put up a sign that says "no religious solicitation". They won't knock and they'll find some other poor schmuck to harrass. I've only been visited once since I moved here last year, and I feigned mild interest for all of about 30 seconds until I got bored and shut the door. If I want to communicate with God, I'll pray. If I want to read the bible, I'll go to church. I don't need someone standing at my door reading verses to me (and letting all the heat out of the living room because I have to keep the door open while they read). I put up a sign, and now they don't come here anymore. Problem solved! Oh, and incidentally, ranting to MyLotters probably isn't going to keep JW's from coming to your house. lol.

1. If you do not want a visit, request to be put on the "do not call list". I'm sure that won't take as much effort as it does to make this post. Oh! I forgot - you get paid for posting on mylot, but not for telling Jehovah's Witnesses not to visit you again. 2. If we didn't have interest in you, we would not call. We do have a life, contrary to what you think - and the difference is that we spend our life trying to give you a true life. 3. Those Watchtowers are printed completely on voluntary contributions, with volunteers who give up their time, energy and much of what they could do outside, to print the stuff. If you don't want it, you can say you don't want it. No one is going to stuff it down your throat. It takes courage to tell a person you don't want something. Try it the next time and see whether or not you will have place for your games. 4. Why are people coming to your door? Because that was Jesus' command to all Christians. For those who don't want to follow it - answer him! We are just following what he said. If you don't want it, say so. We are neither beggars nor are we fund-raisers. When Jesus preached, those with open hearts contributed towards helping others (or else they wouldn't have had a money-box from which Judas stole). Did that make Jesus a fund-raising socio-political shenanigan? The real life is not just a bunch of games or jokes or DVD movies.

ZaffireWolf, I think these people do not mean you any harm. However, whenever you feel overwhelmed by religious visitors, you are free to inform them that you do not wish to have them at your door step again. If they are indeed good religious folks, then they should respect your wishes and seize coming. And as per "may be alone," there are in fact people who do not understand that being alone does not necessarily mean being lonely. I, as a matter of fact, do very much enjoy being alone at times, and I have never been lonely. During these moments, I take my time to reflect and/or enjoy certain things quietly (though I always have some background noise - which I very much enjoy). There are just some people who are too dependent and do not understand that others can be independent.
