Diabetic with High Blood Pressure Problem - Need Help

My dad is a diabetic with high blood pressure. He recently (two months ago) had a quadruple bypass. He is still on weight restrictions, he can only lift 15 lbs. He was in for a routine visit with his dietician and ended up in the emergency room because his blood pressure was dangerously high. After he was in there about an hour they went ahead and let him drive home, with his blood pressure still dangerously high. When he got home he took half of a blood pressure pill and waited and checked it and it had gone up. He did it again and again it went up. This made me mad so I spent all day today typing in the names of each and every pill he is on for his high blood pressure and his diabetes and even his eye drops and checking to see what the interactions were and everything. (I love WebMD) Anyway, I found out that the two pills he is on for high blood pressure should NEVER be taken together, they interact with each other. I also found out he cannot stop either one of them or he could die, he has to be weaned off one, but which one? It seems logical to me that the one he should be weaned off should be the one that should NEVER be taken with insulin! The problem is, the other one quits working after being taken for an extended period of time and he's been on it 3 or 4 years and it doesn't seem to work as well as the dangerous one that interacts with everything else he is on. Well, another thing I found out is that the med he is on for his sugar is for people who are NOT on insulin. He is on insulin but was taking this med prior to his insulin, however, the same doc prescribed both and the pharmacy did not catch it either!!!! What is wrong that in this country of modern conveniences and computers something like this can happen and neither the doctor or the pharmacy catches it? Furthermore, the eye drops he is on interact with 2 of his meds and can cause him not to know if his sugar gets low. How can this happen? I know doctors don't have time to read up on meds but this is ridiculous! What about a computer program that would check instantly? My main thing is, I need to figure out what high blood pressure medicines work well together and also work well with diabetic medicines! I spent all day on it and still don't have that one figured out! Anyone out there who can help? PLEASE! My dad's life may be in jeopardy if we don't get this figured out and I know we can't count on the doctors!

Hello, Mrsadvice! diabetes is a life threating condition for men and women.i know you have consulted many physicians for your father and he is under medication.let those continue.i am giving yopu some tips, kindly follow and have a try.{1}take resort to morning and evening walk daily as walking helps to fight diabetes.weight management and physical activity are the most essential treatment for diabetes.just 30 minutes of moderate physical activity such as walking is enough to ensure good health, the benefits of walking are tremendous.in addition to weight control, walking helps to control cholesterol level, slows bone loss associated with advancing age,and helps to reduce anxieties and depression.it releases endorphins --body's natural pin relievers, increases flexibility in joints decreases pain, protects heart and blood vessels, improves sleep quality enhances mood and boosts energy levels.walking reduces the risk of diabetes by helping the body to use its natural anti-diabetes hormone;insulin more effectively and efficiently.{2}no drinks or smoking.{3}keep away from junk food, only salt and sugar free diet is best {4}early to bed and early to rise is a must.{5}no tension atall.enough it is.thank you and good luck.

Wise counsel indeed. I did spend a lot of time researching the DASH diet and going over the specifics with my parents who are planning to improve their diet. I will head over there in a little while and say, "Let's go for a walk."

I am so sorry for your Dad. I don't think I knew that. I will keep him in my prayers. My husband is diabetic and had a heart attack three years ago but he is doing really well. You would look and him and not believe he had a heart attack or had diabetes as he is skinny and used to walk blocks and blocks as a mailman. He is now a mailhandler so he doesn't walk as much but he moves heavy boxes all night now, so he is still in good shape. Talk to you soon. Love, Annette
