My kid is four. Can anyone share tips of how to train kids to brush after every meal? Thanks...

I notice that my children learn best from copying me. If you set the example for them to brush your own teeth as often as you want them to brush that they will want to do that also. Make sure that you supervise them to make sure that they're not just sucking the toothpaste off the brush! I usually start by brushing my kids teeth and then let them brush afterwards.

Yes, we do that at washing time - when I am around. Thanks, I really feel this is just symptomatic of a major deficiency from me. As I said in my reply above, "parental presence". Thanks!

Well, i think you really need to start earlier than now. I don't know about brushing after EVERY meal but after breakfast & before bedtime should be more than enough. If you push for too much they might not do it at all. My daughter is 18 months & we've been brushing teeth since she got her first one. I just make sure to brush them all at least twice & then she can go do her thing. Perhaps you should have maybe started the routine earlier though, maybe try buying her a fun, electric tooth brush - i have found that kids that age seem to like using them more than normal brushes because they're fun & they feel funny in the mouth but still do a great job! Good Luck!

Yes, someone did tell me that after every meal might be too much. On the fancy toothbrushes, we got recently got her a "disney princess" one, which was her choice, after she decided against the barbie one. Maybe I am the missing link now - "parental guidance"... and presence. Thanks, gemmygirl1!

Before I leave the house and go to work, I would have her sit at the sink while I brush my teeth. At first she wouldn't touch the toothbrush, but when she sees me regularly doing it and seems to have fun with it, she started brushing hers. Now everyday it's our ritual everyday before I go to the office.

Yes, I think that's a good one, too. We usually do that when I get a chance to wash with her, so we do the simultaneous brushing, too. I wish sometimes that I don't grow too impatient. Sometimes I turn "militaristic" and then she turns back at me. sigh! Thanks, too!

Hi. My kids are 6 and 7. They have been brushing their teeth themselves regularly since they were about 3. What I did is was help them the first few times to show them how. After that, I that I kept them interested by experimenting with different kids toothpaste to find one they liked. Now I have no problem getting my kids to brush because they like the taste of the toothpaste and therefore like to brush. Hope this helps.

Yes, it is very inspiring. I am juggling work and studies and a small shop at home, so I am really missing out on the training part for my kid; I mean, regularly. Add to that the difficulty of getting a good babysitter and househelp. I am at the end of my coursework and I look forward to more time (again) with my kid. Thanks!
