What is eggnog?

I just head it somewhere sounds kinda funny. But when i asked my cousin she being like clever out of everyone told me that it's called as Lait de Poulet in French which is suppose to mean chicken milk. Now thats something which i totally failed to understand. But still can anybody give my satisfactory explanation?

its like from NOG , noggin, meaning "head"
