As Ive said I was happy with a Mayweather win and am not a Hatton fan. However, I wanted to see a fair fight and unfortunately it was completely screwed by the ref for continually hindering Hattons momentum. Continually failing to acknwoeldge Mayweather ducking below waiste line, stopping clean shots being traded when no holding was occuring. His point deduction and constant harrassment of Hatton totally disurpted any strategy the boxer had, leaving with the opinion he had to go for the KO at a point when his stamina was gone (not been impressed with Hattons stamina in recent years. Even on the refs page on Wilipedia, Cortez's reputation is tarnished: 'Cortez has received widespread criticism for his handling of Undefeated, the bout between Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather Jr on December 8, 2007. Jim Watt has publicly attacked Joe Cortez for his "deplorable" performance. The thought is that Cortez was overly intrusive, and did not let the fighters get close to each other; a scenario that would have suited Ricky Hatton. Cortex then deducted Hatton a point in round 6 - the first of his professional career - for hitting on the back of the head. Cortez failed to see Mayweather ducking and almost trying to lever himself through the ropes. Hatton responded by turning his back on Floyd on the resumption. The suspicions of bias from English supporters was apparent, with sections of the crowd chanting "The referees a w**ker" throughout some of the rounds. Their ill-feeling towards Cortez was further exacerbated by Cortez posing for photos with Mayweather just moments after the fight.' Regardless of Cortez's antics, the result would have still been the same. it was only a mtter of time before Mayweather would have dispatched Hatton. I just feel the first 3-4 rounds would have been much better if Cortes didn't ruin it :( He seriously needs to be called out!
