Is it selfish to want kids?

I reckon the world is getting more and more screwed every day.If I had a kid it would be around 2020 that it would start to learn/want some independence and I think insuch an overpopulated, overpoluted hostile world, having a child to worry about would do my head in!I really wonder if I will ever be ready to take that on, and if I'm being selfish to want to bring someone into the world and introduce them to such a mess.Does anyone feel the same?

I've never had a desire to have kids. For myself I don't have a good reason to have them but I don't think it's selfish to have them. After all if no one has kids people would go extinct. If you want them have them. The world is not over populated there are plenty of resources to go around we just use them foolishly. There is plenty of space. Some places may be worse than others. The world has been screwed up and will always be screwed up but there is still good in the world it all depends on how you look at things.

Wanting or not wanting a child shouldn't be considered selfish. It is up to the person. The world will always be a dangerous, overpopulated place. So that shouldn't be a reason to not have a child. It should be a matter of a desire to be a parent or a desire not to have a child.I can see waiting to be a parent because of money or not finding a partner or wanting to focus on a career, but if being a parent is what you want to do, you should do it. And these days you don't have to birth a baby to be his/her parent. So it is Never too late. And if you never feel ready to be a parent, that's okay too. There is no law saying that you have to be a parent.
