A Memory Of Tom

My wife returned from her brothers in Michigan after his passing with a few stories both happy & sad. This is one of them. I guess a few days after he had found out she was a perfect match for the bone marrow donor process he had gotten really excited. he worked for General Mo=tors and gets a really decent employee discoint on new vehicles. he had made plans to go out shopping to buy a new GM truck or car for himself. He had talked to his sons about what type to buy etc. Debbie was told by others that Tom was like a small child in a candy store talking about getting a brand new car. So that's one tale that I felt I wanted to share iot. God bless you Tom. We love you and miss you dearly. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That is the way, remember the good times. It makes the loss easier. It is good to know that he did find a short period of happiness in the last bit of his life, even though it was based on a false hope. Keep up the happy memories.

This happened the same day before he had found out he was given 2 weeks left. He still should have bought it I think just for the thrill of it at least. Thanks bunches. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

yes it was very devastating. She had made flight reservations and all the appointments for pre donor exams etc. She was very excited to see her family a lot also. Well the good thing is she is now on the Bone Marrow National regitry anyhow for someone else that may need it. Thanks again. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob, This is a very touching memory, you've shared here. I'm glad that he was able 'to know' that his sister was a perfect match, and that she was going to 'try' to give him this beautiful gift. How sad though, that just as he was making plans, and full of hope, he received the devasting news, about his condition. It's good that you're 'talking' about him here. As you know, this brings great comfort, if we can find those who will listen, and helps begin the healing process. Grief is such a hard thing. Hugs to you, and yours. xxx

Thanks. There are many touching tales but they won't all be shared. But talking about it is a part of the grieving process. I talk to Deb about him a lot lately. I just feel bad I wasn't able to see him before hand. But that too shall pass. Thanks once again. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

You're welcome. I understand why there would be things that couldn't be shared here, as some things are just too private. It's good that you have Debbie to talk with. As I mentioned before, the grieving process can be a long, hard, (and sometimes lonely) process, as you already know. Take care.

I had thought about that as well. But...... She doesn't drive and he knew this. I think he had some surprises in store for Debbie though had the transplant gone through. just the type of man he was. Thanks. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That is a great story. Thinking about buying the new car helped take his mind off from everything else. I'm glad he was able to have those happy thoughts. Merry Christmas Grandpa Bob.

It's good to be able to share in memories of Tom! It is what will keep him alive in your hearts! My father passed in August, and I miss him dearly. One thing he liked to do is play a card game called Phase 10. I always tried to play that game with him when I visited, but the last time we did, he was too tired to finish. I didn't know then that would be the last time that we would play.

AGB all I can say is at least he knew that time of excitement and happiness - that is a blessing he might not have had without the hope of the transplant! xxx

My Dad passed March 2004 and the memory feels like just yesterday, but it also feels like he has been gone a very long time, we miss our Dad so much. The pain we felt when we lost him felt almost unbearable. It hurts when you lose a loved one. I am so sorry for your loss of Tom. God Bless.

Sorry for your loss too. Same with my moms passing. Its been 10 or 12 years. I can't recall exactly how long. Some days it feels like yesterday then other days it seems a lot longer than it really has been. I think deeply of her come the major holidays. Thanks bunches. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~
