Why are the Diamonds considered to be a girl's best friend????

Whats the reason for that? Can't the girls find friends in any other girl or boy or pets? Why is that diamond only has to be her best friend? Not even gold or silver...why? why? why?

Nice, Dimond is very much liked by most woman. It is the symbol of bright future and obiously precious matal. I also love dimond and hope my loveone will be like a dimond.
