Every year, around 5000 people die in the railway tracks in Mumbai, India. All cases are not reported too. What do you suggest to solve this problem. Just a few days back, a little child lost its life falling in front of a local train. How trgic is it? How to stop it?

Well the obvious way is to "TRY" and educate them...but that seems to be very difficult. Another solution can be to use a system where in you have a small current flowing in the tracks, and once a person trips on the railway track the circuit is broken and that triggers the emergency brake of the train, the monitoring of the track could be done to about 300feet in front of the train, so that the triggering of the brakes is localized and not universal, this can save power too as the whole track need not be electrified. I am not sure how the complete circuit will look, but i feel its possible. At least i am trying rite?. oh! and instead of a small current that is harmless, we could use a bit more DC current (DC is less harmful than AC) to shock the people a little bit :), and remind them that what they are doing is wrong.

Nice idea. But if it is implemented, obviously the people will come to know. So, even the wise people will be careless. That will finally lead to repeated halting of the trains, and unnecessary delay. What do you feel?

as i said we could have a little bit more current to shock them, not too much though, just as a warning. One more solution to that you can think of is having a hefty fine, you can have a camera in front of the train for proof :). It does become legal to charge a hefty fine once you've stopped the train. In bangalore no body used to wear helmets, but once they started catching and charging fine of Rs.300, everybody started wearing helmets.
