I had the opportunity to try Linux - installed for 2 weeks (red hat) and I loved the multiple desktops and super stability. I am not sure if they are versions or releases but I see Debian, Red Hat, Ubuntu, and others. What should I start with?

I found Ubuntu to be the easiest I have used Red Hat 6.10 before and it was good as a Counter-Strike but i would say both Ubuntu and Fedora whould be a good start just flip a coin 4 which of them u want to start with if ur cd drive is to slow to live cd them. Ubuntu only takes like 15 mins install but i think most Linux OSes are the same and like the other users said they are all Linux just with some changes

Thanks Dark, The guys at work use Ubuntu. I just downloaded it, but need to install it. I am half decided but want to wait to see what you all say first.

You can start with any flavor of linux. Actually there is not much of a difference. If you study one flavor, it is actually like studying all flavors of linux. Most of the features and the commands are the same for all flavors.

I am a bit cautions about just picking any one. I messed up with Red Hat and Gnome crashed (had no idea how to bring it back up) I don't know the command lines yet and could not get the IT guys on Skype (no version for Red Hat)- I even downloaded all 8 listed and none of them was an RPM.
