In between sleep if you are awake, can you go to sleep immediately?

Hi, If I get up in between sleep for any reason, I find it difficult to go to sleep immediately. It takes a long time to fall asleep and I feel tired next day as proper sleep was not there in the night. How about you? Any suggestions for getting sleep immediately?

Hello! Well, I only find it hard to sleep, but if I wake up in the middle of the night I have no troubles. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, because my dog is in need of something or any other reason (sometimes there is no reason), but I find it easy to sleep even if I get up and go to the bathroom. As I said, the only problem is when I go to bed, I stay like 1~2 hours without being able to sleep. Respectfully.

I spend some time before computer and that makes me get sleep. But in between sleep what can I do? May be I should keep my mind calm, without any thoughts. That will take practice for sometime.

You should not try to let your mind vague, it might bother you. Just start to think about your routine, step by step, detail by detail, you doing everything you usually do. You'll sleep without seeing it.

I sleep almost immediately. :) I remember someone saying that you need the right temperature to sleep properly. So you should adjust your temperature in your surroundings. And secondly, you need to clear everything away in your head.. and quit thinking about any issues at hand. Next, if you dream, I think it's pretty much not sleeping. I can't stop dreaming, but I know on a day that I'm very tired, I won't dream at all, and would just concuss on the bed. :)

I had been in the night shift for the past three years. I sleep most days in the afternoon. Most times even when I get up in between the sleep, I am able to sleep immediately. I work in the night during the week days and sleep during the day time and sleep at night int he week nights when I get off. Initially, it was difficult for me to adjust the sleep time and my sleeping. Now I am able to control my sleep well and is able to go to sleep when I wanted. I think meditation is one of the best way to go to sleep. I tries to bring my mind to calm through concentration and meditation and finds easy to sleep. I think it hard to sleep when oour mind wanders on different thoughts. I think we should relax our body and our mind to get a good sleep. I also believes the quality of the sleep matters more than the quantity of the sleep. Our body and mind needs to get adequate rest and relaxation in our sleep. I also thinks good dreams helps us to make our day better.

If it is because of a nightmare, then I cannot for sometime. It depends on how scary the nightmare was. If it is due to some other disturbance from outside, then I can easily fall back to sleep. I think it depends on the state of mind you are in when you are awakened, if you are too tensed or nervous or fearful, then it will take sometime or you might go sleepless the whole night. A better suggestion would be to toil hard during your waking hours thereby making it impossible to have a sleepless night. That way you will be too tired not to fall into a sound sleep.

Hi Buchi_bulla, It is natural for everyone to get up in between sleep and also it is natural for everyone to take some time to go back to sleep. But in your case, you have mentioned it is taking long time to sleep again. This is not natural. Either you would have been thinking on some thing regularly or some thing is disturbing you regularly. Try to find out this reason and if you are not able to find out the reason take medical advise. Good Luck.

I see some of my friends go to sleep immediately as soon as they lie down. I envy them. May be you are correct. I have to keep my mind calm. Thanks.

i do face the same problem as you. i am a light sleeper and the slightest sound wakes me up. it is quite a problem to go back to sleep for a few hours after that. and i find that i don't wake up fresh the next morning. i try to remain calm with my eyes closed, and sometimes, i find that i drift back to sleep. try deep breathing too. it helps sometimes. think of something pleasant and that too may lull you back to your dreams. good luck, anyway.

Thinking of good things also sometimes works and sometimes they will kindle new thoughts and suddenly you realise that you have not slept for a long time.

sleep and dream - sleep and dream image
you know it is interesting to sleep between awake. Mostly i can control my dream the way i want it. Practise to control dreams give you avantage to fulfill your true life dream. that awakening is made us stay in both place: dreams and reality. We were already open the gate into our sub consciousness mind.

I can really get sleep after I woke up in the midnight. But yesterday night, I woke up at 2AM and haven't slept for the next three to four hours. I don't know what happened to me but I had some problem in breathing and had to sit for the rest of the night. I had some important assignments in my office and so I thought I should not miss that and left for office but was very tired.

I am sorry you had a problem. This sleeplessness does not go with that. It sucks our next day energy. That is the problem.

This is an interesting topic for me..I have never had sleeping troubles..I could always fall asleep within minutes of going to bed and if I awakened in the night I could return to my sleeping state quite readily...then one month ago I experienced a full night of no sleep..completely awake...as if it were the middle of the day.. since that night I have averaged 3 hours of nightly sleep..I have even sought the help of my physician...they have prescribed medication...I tried it on 2 occasions only to find it leaving me foggy headed and only offering me an extra 1 hour of sleep... Last night I slept almost 5 hours ( broken sleep but sleep nonetheless) I am not worrying, not having a crisis, not sick..but am afraid that it is becoming a bit of a health risk since my body has no time to repair at night and my balance and abilities are impaired in my waking hours...So I suppose I am the wrong candidate to give advice on the subject..but prior to this experience and even now, I always make sure I have a clear mind and a well exercised body each night before I sleep... I enjoy a cool and soft environment and like to read a few pages in a book before I turn out my light.. my best sleeping has always come after a good day of activity and a sense of accomplishment...I do find that diet affects my full nights sleep..eating healthy foods throughout my day and ending the eating early in the evening makes for a better sleep..but for now, none of this is working for me..so I hope to benefit from this discussion and the responses to your difficulty. Good luck and may we both sleep appropriately for good health and purpose..

Hello dear Buchi. In most cases it is not easy for me to fall asleep again if I happen to wake up in between especially when it is close to five or six in the morning. There are also quite a few times when it was about one or two in the morning that I was awake and found it very hard to fall asleep again, which makes me feel so worried about the broken sleep that would influence my energy the next day. I think that the better way to go back to fall asleep is to not to keep your mind active once you cannot fall asleep otherwise you will be kept awake all the time...

I wish I had a simple answer for you but unfortunately I don't I know that when I wake up in the middle of sleep to go to the bathroom or just sleeping wrong and something woke me up I have a hard time going to sleep agian. Right now I'm playing insomniac theater and my doctor has prescribed rozerim , sorry about the spelling but even that takes about 3 hours to kick in. I would suggest if your having sleeping problems to talk it out with your physician and see what he can do for you.

Hi,there! I usually don't have problems with that.I could sleep almost immediately even if I'm awake after the former sleep.I think the point is that, don't make yourself very clear and really awake, just think about that you want to sleep and you would really like to sleep. Then don't think about anything else.I think it'll help you to go to sleep very soon.Don't give yourself the sense that you can't sleep that quickly after another sleep.Just relax and try to get into the sleeping state and forget about other things:) Best regards and good luck.Hopefully you'll have a nice sleep tonight^_^

Very rarely I fall a sleep immediately when I wake up. When I can't fall a sleep for more than half an hour I turn on the TV and that makes me to sleep soon. I don't think that tv is a perfect solution, on the contrary, I think it is very bad one, but I it is the only think that can help me.

The only way I get to sleep at all is because the meds I'm on for Bi-Polar disorder knock me out. If I do wake up in the middle of the night for whatever reason these pills are still in my system so I am able to go back to sleep right away. But before the meds I had trouble falling asleep at night, sometimes I would lay there for hours before I could fall asleep and I was very tired the next day, with no energy whatsoever. If was to wake up ion the middle of the night there was no going back to sleep for me. I am grateful for these meds because without them there would be no sleep for me at all. The only suggestion I can tell you is to ask your doctor about sleeping pills but if you don't want to start sleeping pills then I guess maybe do something relaxing before going to bed and try to shut your mind down. Believe me, I know it's hard but that's all I can tell you. Good luck and I hope you are able to start sleeping better soon. :)

I have always had a hard time falling asleep at night. I have night anxiety really bad. If I woke up in the middle of the night or too early in the morning, I could not go back to sleep either. The doctor recently put me back on medication to help control the anxiety so my sleep has thankfully gotten better.
