Are there any disadvantages and or advantages of having a big dog vs. a small dog? Do you prefer a big dog, or a small dog? What is your opinion on this topic?

I am a big dog lover! My dogs are my furry children. I had a small dog for 12 years we got her a month after we got married and she was put to sleep for health problems in 2005. She had many health problems that always cost a ton of money. Now I have 2 medium dogs both about 50 pounds. I have no health issues from them yet, one is 5 and the other is 2. I loved having the little one and I love having the ones I have now.

We have always had a big dog. We live on a farm though and i think its better to have a big dog. They help to protect our animals. I always wanted a small dog though - one that would stay small. That way i could take it on walks and stuff. =)

I like all kinds of dogs big and small, but in order to have a large dog i feel a person not only needs to have a large yard but it should also be fenced to protect that dog as well..I live on 2 acres and i have plenty of room for a large dog, however my place is Not fenced so i do not feel a dog should run around loose because they can get hurt or cause a problem..I refuse to keep a large dog in my house...I have a small dog, i have a long hair chihuaha, and she stays in the house.i do not need a yard for her, i take her out to use the potty and she is back in ..If i get my place fenced then i will get a large outside dog....

My wife & I are big dog people, I like the fact that they have an intimidation factor to strangers and they are not so fragile as some tiny dogs, I do not want to have to worry about squishing my dog ;)

I have a small dog but I've always really fancied the big ones more. It's just recently that small dogs have started to appeal to me but I wanted a small one as my first dog cause they are easier to manage. The big disadvantage I find with my dog is that when training I always have to sit on the floor or bend down so I can give treats at the right time, which hurts my back more than I'd like. The advantage, well he's a great lapdog and doesn't take up too much space in my bed if we take a nap and doesn't take up much space in the car. I'm starting to like small breeds more and more now, but I will probably still get a big dog later.

I have had both. I had a little daschund that lived to be about 16 and she was a mini dauschund so she was small. I've also got a 100 + lb lab retriever, a 70 lb lab/pit bull mix and a Jack Russell terrier mix. They all have good barks. But with the big dogs comes big poo. And they poo a lot. Big huge poo piles that are just waiting for you to step in them.
