I love some of my material things like my computer for one.And soceity makes it so we have to be materialistic.I live in Virginia. It is illegal for me not to make enough money to pay for electricity with a child in the home.So what do the Quaker's do?They do not believe in electricity? The church says that the bible states we give the church 10% of our income before we pay our rent and other bills. If I don't have enough money after that to pay my rent and utilities, then I get evicted or have no electric, water or heat for my daughter. Then in the states eyes Iam an unfit parent and they can take my daughter away from me.I get socail security because my husband died three years ago and Iam also handicapped but cannot get disability at the same time as survivors benefits.I have no medical assistance or food stamps because socail services says I make too much money. We get a little over $1,800 a month. My rent is $1400.She will not fix things,so that makes the utility costs higher.I pay utilities, food, over the counter drugs, doctors appointments for my high blood pressure, the prescription, bus costs, household supplies with a little over $200 a month! I can't seem to find any at home work that really pays or doesn't cost to get into. But,then again too if I strive for more then it is being materialistic. But if I don't then the man made laws can cause me alot of problems.

The amount you pay for rent is outrageous. I would think since you are on a fixed income like that, you would be able to get into a home or apt. based on your income. That would be the first place I would start if it was me. I own my home and my mortgage is less than $600. I bet you could get in a home cheaper than that even.

Yes the amount of rent around here is rediculous and the mortgages are about the same or higher. The programs that have rent by your income are full and have a 5-6 year waiting list.

i had this problem constantly as a single mom. we made too much money for federally paid insurance, too little for state insurance...ended up bouncing around so much we ended up with no insurance! our waiting lists for assisted housing was outrageous also - we could not even get on the waiting list, as they had a waiting list to get on the waiting list, and that list was full. your rent is too high for your income. you need to pray to saint anthony (seems like you are a praying person, if you are not i apologize but this actually does work) to find a cheaper place in a good area like I am presuming you are in now. you might have to make some sacrifices...but it may help you be better off in the long run. i lived in a $1400 rent area too...i prayed and prayed and finally found a $500 one bedroom apartment above a laundromat. my son and i slept in the same room. a train woke us up at 3 am twice a week until we learned to sleep through it. our heating bills were low because the dryer vents kicked up heat :) is there someone you know who could be a room-mate? a relative you could stay with for 6 months to save some $? it will get better, don't worry!
