The only time I lie is during gift giving season so the surprise remains a surprise.

I tell it straight most of the time. I have a really strict honor code, and there are very few situations in which I can convince myself it would be okay to lie. If it's going to save someone's life or keep them safe in some tangible way, sure. Not for any lesser reason.
