Celebrating New Year

How do you and your family welcome New Year? Here in my country, and it has been the family tradition as well, we celebrate the coming of every new year through feasting at the dinner table. Then at New Year's Eve, we have a street party with the neighbors. Every year we pull outside our big rectangular table and we share our food, and all the neighbors who want to join the party share their own food too. Then we have lots of firecrackers so we close the street. It was a very noisy and very fun celebration for all of us. So how do you guys celebrate New Year? :)

Well, I live in Hong Kong. We normally eat out at a restaurant or some nice place during New Year's Eve. Sometimes I hang out with friends and watch the countdown at the HK harbour, which has a stunning night view. There are fireworks and laser shows which are really spectacular. Too bad this year's New Year was freezing cold (at least for me it was, haha), if not it would have been really really good to end off the last year

I live in Australia, and I guess everyone are have their different ways of celebrating New Years ! Our way of celebrating New Years is that we either go into the capital city and watch the fireworks or some of us sit in the backyards of our home and watch fireworks while we have a BBQ and a few drinks with friends and family as await for the New Year to come !!

In Holland there is a lot of noise as well. On the 31st people are allowed to do fireworks till 2 AM, so the rumour starts somewhere late in the morning, then somewhere about 10 PM it gets less loud and in the last 10 minutes it's totally calm. Then at 12 PM there's a great noise and lots of beautiful fireworks. Or neighbours came over to celebrate this year, not all neighbours celebrate together or with street parties, it varies. We had a lot of new people moving in and we will get 2 more new families (there are 5 homes so that's A LOT!). Well, seems like a good plan for 2008; getting to know them. We had a nice dessert this new years eve as well, we made brownies with ice cream and caramel sauce :)

making wishes.. that's interesting. here in the philippines, i don't find people making wishes on new year's eve, but we do have preparations like the feung sui says, to attract fortune and good luck. :)
