Comfortable chairs and sleep?

I have often heard people say that they fall asleep when they sit for a while in a comfortable chair. At first I just thought it was only old people who do this and I was somewhat right. I have a plush over-sized recliner that seems to put everyone who sits there to sleep.Especially if they are over 50. But my grandkids go to sleep when they sit in it. Is it because it is warm (has a heater in it for my back) or what? Do you ever fall asleep if you are in a comfortable chair?

I fall asleep on my break at work in the comfortable chair in the break room all the time. I'm only 27 too, but that chair is just sooo comfy! I've been late coming up from break a few times because I fell asleep, and someone will have to come get me. That's why usually I don't sit in that chair unless I know someone will be coming through to wake me, or my cell phone alarm is set for whenever I have to get back to work. :P I think being comfortable makes me sleepy no matter where I am. Sometimes it's physical comfort (like the nice chair) but other times it's emotional comfort. I tend to fall asleep when I'm with certain friends because I feel safe enough in their presence, if I'm tired at all.

Sounds as if you need some more quality as well as quantity sleep. Working takes it toll on all of us.I keep saying I'm just catching up on all the sleep I missed while raising my 6 kids.

In my case it's partially an issue of being exhausted from constant vertigo, partially side effects from the medicine used to treat the vertigo, and partially oxygenation issues from my lung problems. All health stuff. Yay. So even if I get what should be enough sleep, I always feel a little run down.

I think it also has to do with the hectic fast way we are living. So when we do slow down our bodies are more than ready for the rest and we go to sleep.

I have done this in the past. My mom had kept my dad's old La-Z-Boy after their divorce. As a teen I'd read books while reclined back in this chair. And for some reason the darn thing always made me fall asleep, it was that comfortable! So, falling asleep in a comfy chair isn't just for old folks. LOL

I know thats right, my grandson falls asleep when he sits in it and he is only 10 years old. He like to rock so I guess that does have something to do with it also.

due to breathing troubles I sleep every night upright on the love seat. I miss my comfy bed but no longer get adequate sleep in it

Well you should try to get one of these plush, heated, vibrating, rocker/recliners It does wonders for those who have a problem breathing.

I think the heat may have something to do with it. Even my friend B.J. has fallen asleep in it for a short while... we got a good laugh out of that one.

I have not fallen a sleep in a comfortable chair just for the fact of sitting in it. I have a very comfortable recliner from Lazy boy. The recliner is over sized and great. However, I have not fallen asleep in it unless I intended to. I have asthma and during some of my attacks I can only sleep in an almost sitting possition. I find this chair to be very comfortable to sleep in. I can recline and yet I am in enough of an upright possision that I can breathe. I have never seen any of my family memebers fall asleep either in a chair just because they were board. I am not saying that it is not possible. I guess I am like you and just do not understand how it could happen. I have a back massager as well as a heater in my chair and still I do not fall asleep while I am watching television. I wish it was that easy for me to fall asleep.

Maybe you will when you get to be my age. Or when you have pain that keeps you from sleeping well at night. Which I hope and pray never happens. I wouldn't wish arthritis on my worst enemy.

Well, mostly if I am tired, yes. If I find a comfortable chair/couch and am tired enough, I will crashed..

Those little naps sure do make a difference in my attitude. If I am in a bad mood a short nap puts me back on track. Now I read somewhere that you will not fall asleep if your body doesn't need that rest. Then it said that diabetics do this when their blood sugar rises and that's every time we eat!

Ha! I need to borrow your chair! I hardly ever sleep at night much less during the day. My husband and I were just talking about that today when he woke up. I didn't get any sleep last night because I broke my finger. (See my discussion on how I'm not going to make money in January) He mentioned that I could take a nap today. I reminded him that I have taken exactly 2 naps since we have been together 7 years ago. I was really sick those two times.

Hi GGF Sorry about your finger, I bet that hurts. Well this recliner is better than taking a sleeping pill. My son says it's cursed. So when I am watching a good movie I have to sit somewhere else or I will fall asleep, even if for just 5 to 10 minutes.

I fall asleep almost every time that I sit in a comfortable chair. I just get so relaxed and comfy...then I don't want to get up or move, because I am so relaxed and comfy. Then, all the sudden, the next thing you know, I am in dreamland!

I think it's good for us to take those 15 minute naps. I know I always feel better when I wake up.

I remember being young and seeing my parents and grandparents fall asleep in the afternoon and wondering why, however I must admit that now and then it happens to me usually when I've been non stop doing things. There is a thing with comfy chairs and sleep although it doesn't often apply to my son but regularly applies to my husband!

I call it the "homer" effect hehe..falling asleep in a comfortable chair is somewhat relaxing and funny at the same time. I also like portable chairs, you can use them for camping or going to the beach. Portable chairs also have to be comfortable, in that way you can fall asleep outdoors. If you are a guy that likes chairs for the beach, camping, or game day. Come on over, we have all kinds of beach chairs. www.beachchairs.name
