My 5 Month old kitten is driving me mad....help?!!

Bella, at 4 months - Bella my kitten when she was about 4 months old.

My beautiful 5 month old kitten is driving me nuts, most of the time Bella is lovely, cuddly and playful but her violent and viscous outbursts are getting worse and more frequent. Last night at about 5 in the morning she was jumping on me and when I lifted her off the bed she went mad, my arms were red raw from all the biting and scratching, she continued to attack me and all other attempts to stop her or calm her down were met with similar results. Can anyone suggest away to stop or calm her down when she gets like this? We spray her with water if shes bad in the day (even though she just licks it off and continues what she was doing before) but at night spraying water everywhere isn't the easiest option. She is being spayed in 2 weeks I'm hoping that she might calm down after that, does anyone know if this is likely? She is a lovely cat as you can see from the picture but these violent moments are starting to grate on me, shes had a hard young life as she was brought from a pet shop at 6weeks into a home with an older cat which bullied her, she was overfed and given to a shelter at 8 weeks, and we got her at 10 weeks with a still inflammed belly from the overfeeding. I really just want to be able to sort this out so a.) I can sleep and b.) i can love her all the time instead of waking up sore and angry!!Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Wow, that's a tough one. I don't understand why a cat that is usually sweet would turn on you like that! I think I would take her to the vet for an exam to make sure she isn't physically ill; maybe she is in pain when she gets viscious. Could her early feeding problems have left her with a chronic tummy condition of some sort?

Was also thinking of that, i agree that a med exam at a vet should be done to check if there is som type of illnes at play here. Its sad that such a nice and cute cat gets outbursts like that,

I do hope not, she is going to the vets on Friday for a pre spay check up. She began heat early at about 4 and a half months and usually has a bit of a crazy night before she goes into heat cycle, so I am waiting to see today if she will enter heat and hope that last night was just a particularly hardcore, pre heat night rather than anything more serious! Thank you for you response!

Bella back from the vet and all is fine. Perfect weight and perfect health. Thank You all for your suggestions, I guess shes just being a little terror, she's being spayed next week so hopefully we'll see a chance in her then.

What a beauty! Bella! Sorry you have so much trouble. Respectfully, I would have had her spayed before she went into heat - well before 5 months! To wait until she goes into heat is not helpful to kitty. I do hope your vet isn't waiting for that?? Getting her spayed may make so much difference that you might hardly remember the difficult times at all.

Our vet wouldn't do her until she's 6 months, i was hoping to get her done at 4 as I'm aware of the health benefits of doing it before they enter heat but he wouldn't do it, I was hoping she wouldn't start until she was 6 months so she'd still get the benefits, seeing her in heat is horrible, wish I could help her. Hopefully once she's done my arms will be scar free and Bella will be the gorgeous kitten she is most of the time! Although its looking like last night wasn't heat related as she's showing now signs of starting her cycle. Thanks for your advice.

My Joey has been like that since he was a newborn. Just a wild wild kitten. I had bloody hands, feet and arms for about 8 months. Then...he tapered off. He does love to be outside, and I do think that helps his behavior. But my other cats do the same thing when they want to play..the difference is..they are gentle biters and Joey was a lunatic. I think Bella will outgrow it. Good luck.
