Does anyone have any simple crock pot recipes to start before work to be done when you get home? I am looking for easy and inexpensive. Thanks for your help.

I have a roast in my crock pot today - cheap beef roast, potatos, carrots, and a couple of onions. dump some water in there and cook it on low. when you get home you can add some corn starch to the broth and turn it up to high - then you have gravy. I love beans in the crock pot too. Soak them like it says on the bag. Then throw them in the crock pot. I like them with ham hocks. Or make a chili - brown some hamburger - throw it into the beans with some tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper - or a chili seasoning packet. The best thing about a crock pot is that you can take cheap cuts of meat and make them very good - without a lot of fuss. Ooo - pork roasts - when they have them for $.99 a lb - I put one of those in the crock pot with a bottle of bbq sauce and a couple chipotle in adobo (out of a can) and cook it all day then shred it for sandwiches - yum!

Oh I used to live out of the crock pot and still today use mine regularly. A single mother of 4 working a full-time job you can believe I also went 'inexpensive'. The cheapest cuts of meats were always top of the list. I learned that anything I cooked on the stove or in the oven I could put in the crockpot and it would be ready when we got home. All the recipes given above I've done - soups and chili, spegetti sause (just cooked the spegetti when I got home). Most times I would put everything in the night before - set it in the refriderator and then before leaving for work would plug it in.

I hate to say it I usually through cheap frozen meat in there and then whatever I have on hand. I experiment a lot and some results not that good, but sometimes I'll create some really great stews from meat & potatoes & other vegetables. I know Banquet has some premix crockpot in the frozen foods section pretty cheap but never tried yet.
