One-child policy

China has reinforced its one-child policy and have expelled 500 people from the Communist Party for defying the country's policy. "Xinhua said 395 offenders were dismissed from their posts, but it wasn't immediately clear if they were included in the 500 who were expelled from the Communist Party. It also wasn't clear if the offenders were additionally penalized. Fines are another common punishment for violating the one-child policy." There so many restrictions in China and this is one of the restrictions that I feel is very unreasonable to those who love kids... What do you think? A while ago my older son was watching a news program for children. It said that the day a celebration for twins and triplets born in China. I guess that is the only way to legally have more than one child in a family. However it is not something a person can choose having one baby is more likely. Having a boy the parents might want a girl or another boy as company for him. Having a girl the parents might want a boy or another girl as company for her. However this is not allowed. I am sure many women get pregnant a second time but this is an accident. I can imagine that it must be very upsetting to have to hide the pregnancy then adopt the baby. So rich people can afford to have two children and pay a considerable fine for doing this. It doesn't seem quite right as poor people love children too. China is worried about its population and I can understand why the one child policy is there. But it is unreasonable for all the people that love children. I don't think it is fair to expel people from their posts.

A baby does not choose to be a boy or a girl. It just happens in life. It is terrible that some of the female babies are being killed because they are the wrong gender. If a woman in the USA wants a boy but has a girl she can try to have a boy in her second pregnancy. However in China with the one child policy a woman must be very upset if there is pressure for her to have a boy and she has a girl. Tradition is not an easy thing to change. When all the boys in China are grown will they find a wife? In society this is the reason that say 50% boys are born and 50% girls are born.

Many children around the world are abandoned or killed for being the wrong gender. I read a story in Reader's Digest once about female children in China I believe being killed or just dumped on the side of the road because they are female. Many parents want male children to carry on bloodlines and to help the parents in their old age. But it's still murder to do what they do to those infant girls.

It looks like there is an obvious breach into every citizen's freedom.Every family is to be planned by the family and not the government. As long as the family possesses the resources to take care of the child to adulthood, there should be no stopping from anyone or any form.If there is not much of a resource in the family to be able to provide for a new child, and to raise him/her the idea might be thought. As much as people are expected to follow the law, it is better if the government works towards providing a comfortable environment in all forms to its citizens rather than forcing people through unnecesary difficult situations. The best option would be to EDUCATE CITIZENS on the growth of population and leave the choice to them.

Well that is good because the worlds largest population is china and india, which is not good. or maybe it will be best until the economy is good and can provide good life to children.

i think it's really needed to apply that on really poor people, or who cant really give their children a better future..i mean, i'm agree with that kind of policy..here in our country the Philippines, we really have to have 1-2 child policy because our country is very populated and there are lots of growing very poor people.. for those who really love kids, just be sure that they really give a better future for their kids..

Even though I don't live in China, I still do pity those who love kids and those who want more kids instead of just one. But in my personal opinion, we can't really blame the government for reinforcing that "one-child policy" in China. I mean, China is just the 4th largest country in the world yet it has the highest number of population which has 1,323,019,845 people (as of January 5, 2008).. I haven't been in China, but with that population count itself, I can already feel that its too overcrowded. I may be wrong but its just what I think. :) There are still advantages for having that kind of policy. Like lesser people, lesser pollution, lesser people who suffer poverty and stuff. Thanks for sharing the story. -best of luck-

I guess with my seven children living a carefree life in China is completely out of the question so I guess I will have to just stay in the US where you are free to have children. Hey didnt God say to be fruitful and multiply.

First of all I would like to say that you are a truly blessed woman having 7 children. I think it's better to have 1 child and give it the proper life than a vast number of children living a miserable life! Freedom is when somebody is able to enjoy his/her children no matter the number they are. God didn't said to have our children in poverty just to multiply like rabbits!

who they are to control the nation, why the goverment will give them a school , food, ect.the parent will be responsibilty for everything, if the parent can give there children everthing even they are 10 kid of the family who will care. if im a chinese really i will tell them " WHO THE HELL ARE YOU" we are not making any trouble. so dont give us any command because we are not an army to follow every command.

The reality is that the parent can't afford to give their children enough things, such as clothes, food, education, etc! But they want to have more children! If you are the government, what will you do,as a responsible country?

That is a sad article I ever read, a lot people who lost their job or post by violating a country policy for having more than 1 child. And the country push their people to have one child only. That is their birth control population in China.

China "enforces" the one child policy having in mind the prosperity of ALL its people and not few of them. Actually if you think deeper you may see that if China's population expands lets say 2 billion it will be forced to expand its borderlines. Starting a war isn't what we want, or do we?

I think this restriction has been imposed because china's population is very huge in number. This is to prevent over crowding in china.

I disagree to this policy. I know the population issue is serious, however, I don't think it should be a law to have one child only. After all, everybody feels worries in the future. It is hard to say what will happen tomorrow. It is a great pressure for one child because when they grow up, they have to at least take care of parents and their child. Besides, this policy is not fair as you can still see some people have more than one child. I think two children will be fine for every family. So I think this policy should change.

yes I think this is one of the most intrusive government policies. It doesn't help that chinese have a traditional bias for boys. I don't even want to start thinking of the number of female foetuses who have been aborted just because they were not male. There must be other way so of educating the population than this draconian law. Sure, it works. Sure, it is the quickest solution. But it is probably a crime against humanity if you think about how many abortions have resulted and how much abuse to 'extra' girl children have resulted from this population curbing measure. It's all very sad.

I believe this has been a long discussion in China and I believe many couples back there have already violated the one child policy (no offence meant). What they do is they sometimes migrate to other Asian countries (for example the Philippines) or let their relatives in other countries take care of their children for sometime. I have friends here back in the Philippines who's parents are both Chinese who migrated to the country because of the one child policy strictly enforced in China. In my opinion its quite harsh for the Chinese government to control how couples decide on how to raise their family. Its quite hard for couples if they want a big family (3 or 4 kids) and they couldn't do it because they would get penalized by the government. Its like your only allowed to do as your told, isn't that pretty difficult? For me, its somehow limits their freedom to choose for what they want for their family.

I did a report on this in high school and there is so much more to it then most people know or want to know. I can understand why they do it because the problem is that the country is so over populated that if everyone continues to have multiple children eventually and for them it is not 100's of years into the future the people who live there will end up starving. However it is a very cruel rule and the torture they put some of these people through for breaking it is just so far beyond even being considered humane.

If every person in China was allowed to breed uncontrolled and have as many children as they wanted, the resources of the nation would end quickly. China has stated over and over that the country's size does not allow for more than one child. If you want more than one child, I'd suggest not living there. Move somewhere else if I were you. Personally there are a lot of people I know that should NOT be allowed to breed or just have one child and that's it.

China was the first overpopulated country in the world. For some of us the one child policy might seem that is a violation of human rights! I will reverse the question a little and ask, how would you act if for eg. the US had the same problem like China and enforce by law the one child policy? I think there are in China families with 2 or maybe 3 children, but they must pay a heavy fine to the state per child if a family break the law. In synopsis i prefer this law than having child breeding farms for organ donors because some government doesn't care or is corrupted!
