The only thing my mother has found to help is Lamicil (I think that's how you spell it!) and it's something you take orally as opposed to being a topical treatment. It's supposed to attack the fungus from the root cause while being active in your system. Treatment can be long, but she's seen fantastic results.

I have taken that and the treatment is for 6 months, but if the nail is infected than you'll need to let it grow out.

The problem is that even after the treatment was done, less than a year later I got fungus on the another nail. I cmplained to the doctor and all he said is that maybe I should try an one year treatment and that would not be guaranteed. I didn't go for it and live with it under control.

I have your answer and it works. My uncle sent my mom an article about it. Get a jar of Vick's vapor rub. Twice a day rub some of it on your toe nail. It will kill the fungus. Keep doing it and you will notice a change. It takes time cause toe nails grow slow. It worked for my mom and she had tried other stuff before. I also had a bad toe nail for a long time, it worked for me too. The pills cost alot of money and they can damage your liver. Vick's is cheap and it won't hurt you, and I like the smell, some people don't. Good Luck.

Lamisil etc have risks that I would not be prepared to take. Tea tree oil will kill all fungus but it must be applied dilligently for a long time to work. It is harmless to your body, but deadly to the fungus

I also have a fungal infection and have used sporanox and lamisil with no results. I just found out that soaking the toe daily (or twice a day) in listerine mouthwash will kill the fungus but it will take time. It does seem to be working!

Forgot to mention, you can re-use the solution for your toe so you aren't spending a fortune. So, after soaking your too for 20 minutes, just rebottle it until the next soak. I also don't like using it cold so sit the bottle in a container of warm water before pouring the listerine into my foot bath.

A friend of mine in Costa Rica said her husband used Listerine to soak his toes in and it got rid of the fungus. I don't know how long it took, but I've passed that info on to several people and they also said it worked.

Because it is difficult to treat or eradicate toenail fungus, it is a good idea to try to prevent it. It helps to wear protective shoes or sandals in public showers, pool areas and gyms, and to avoid borrowing someone else?s shoes or sharing socks or towels with someone who has toenail fungus. An orthotic device can be used to add cushioning and/or control over-pronation, support the longitudinal arch, and reduce stress on the lower leg muscles. Wash your feet regularly, and dry them thoroughly when they get wet. Wearing nail polish on the toes is not advised because it can seal in fungus and allow it to grow. Keep toenails trimmed, and be sure to disinfect any pedicure tools before using them. If you do develop toenail fungus, see your foot doctor. The doctor might remove as much of the nail as possible by trimming, filing or dissolving it. Medicated nail polish might be prescribed for a localized infection, but a serious infection will likely be treated with a prescription oral antifungal medication. These medications can have side effects, so be sure to work closely with your doctor on your treatment plan. Only in severe cases will surgical removal of the nail be recommended. If you suspect that you have toenail fungus, see your foot doctor.

One main reason for fungus and smell is oxygen reacting with bacteria on your skin. Washing feet regularly and wearing clean socks can help cut down on the amount of bacteria. You can also purchase foot powder to dissinfect shoes, as well as keep feet drier, longer.
