I love to play in free poker tournaments, on online sites. It will yield you prizes or entries into bigger tournaments. It is a good way to warm up before playing for money.

Be careful that you don't pick up bad habits in freerolls that will get you in trouble in real money. I like freerolls as well, but you need a different mindset because of all the donkey moves people play.

That is a very good point, disipline is must when playing donkeys. I have my standard starting hands when the blinds are low, then adjust accordingly

Freerolls do not resemble any aspect of real poker. since no one is risking anything if they lose... they all play terribly. all u do in freerolls is go all in preflop wen u hit 5 hands: AA, KK, QQ, AK, and AQ. thers bound to b a bunch of idiots calling you... and then if you are not unlucky you can possibly triple or quadruple up your stack in one hand. Then you just fold every hand until you hit one of those 5 hands again. It's very easy to get in the money if you use this strategy, but again this does not resemble real poker at all.

I enjoy doing that as well. A lot of sites, like Bodog, actually give people real money. I will actually take the money that I win in these freerolls and take them either to real money tables and try to make more or even send them to the sportsbooks to try a bet. I mean, it's not like it's my own money anyways. However, like the person above said, it can be a bit troublesome to stay away from bad habits. But at the same time, it can teach you to stay disciplined and focused on the goal and to be patient, something that may help you in later tournaments or in cash games.

Freerolls are a good way to have fun with poker and build your bankroll at the same time. If you are using freerolls to build your bankroll, say you want to go from $0-$10,000 like Chris Ferguson did one time, then I suggest that you make sure that you have won at least $100 through freerolls before you start playing real money games. But if you're just playing freerolls for fun then it really doesn't matter. I try to play the same way in freerolls that I would in real money tournaments. I have found that that is the best way to make the money in freerolls is to play just as well as you do in real money tournaments. There are a lot of donkeys in freerolls so don't let their play influence how you play. Just keep playing good poker and you'll do well.
