how do download windows update?

how is it possible to download windows updates without automatically updating from pc. Is it available for download from someother site other than microsoft so that i don have to go through the genuine crap n all. Pls help me out!

Hi sania
before you do update first you have to check what kind of service pack you are using, if you are using windows 2000 you shouls have sp4, if you are using windows XP you should have sp 2then
just go through this URL http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?in=en-us
then you will get the windows update screen there you have to select the install now option.
after that there is one option it will ask you you to install gunine windows check don't install that option rest all you can install, if still you have problem there is a solution for it just try this first.
