Graded Music Exams

Many people have different views on whether graded music practical exams are good or bad. I have been taking these kind of exams for around 5 years now - what do you think about them?

Graded music exams are exams that musicians can take all over the world: you have to play various pieces of music to the examiner and they will decide if you pass or fail. Theres also scales and arpeggios that must be played too and some sight reading is involved also.
The exams run from initial, grade 1 to 8, with initial being basic.
