I'm just curious because I have fishes as pets but I have no names for them. Do you think its weird to name you fishes? They are not like cats and dogs that connect to you so much.

Well good for. I just fell the connection with a fish. I think of them more are aesthetic decorations rather than loving pets. Fishes can't express love, can they?

its hard to get into the minds of any animal. but they can give you a sense of love in return. fish in a sense are more calming pets then affectionate.

When I was in college I had one of those small fish tanks that rested on my desk in the dorm rooms, and I had two fish in there that I would watch in the tank when I was relaxing or taking a break from studying. I named them; funny enough, I named one Trapper and the other one Keeper. The gold one was Trapper and the black one was Keeper. It was fun to give them names; I mean, we don't connect with them all the time, but I know that there are times that they would follow my finger on the glass. I definitely liked them and connected with them a little.

Well thank you for your reply. It's also fulfilling to see then not afraid of your fingers anymore. There must be at least a little affection from them.

We have Daddys Big One - My one and Baby fishy - We used to have a school of tetras called All Mine but a bout of ick wiped them out - we also had a Mommas pretty one, but Daddy's big one ate it. My 3 year old named them

We name the ones we can tell apart. So, no I don't think it's wierd. We have Tigger (a 10" pacu), Thumper (a 10" lotch), Hippopotamus (12" pleco), Lazy Swimmy (9" pleco), Krytal (large bala shark), then misc. female & male swordtail fish, one guppy remaining from a batch that my daughter brought home from school last year (they get eaten). We have Racer & Slide that are goldfish in the pond outside with other gold fish. Daisy our turle is out there too. I guess since I named my fish when I was little, I kept doing it and now my kids do it.
