I've been paging war since this morning against a squirrel who thinks its the king/queen of bird feeder junction here.Alot of birds came to visit the feeder and this little bugger keeps popping out of its ground tunnels that it's made under the snow to run through the herd of birds and scare them off, well it got fooled.I went and dug/trampled its tunnels,so now it has no where to go hide. Now it hides in the bushes, waiting for me to "disappear" so it can go right back at being the bully, even to the point of try to grab a chickadee as it flies off.I think i made it mad!Hehehe!Im trying to keep ahead of it,by racking my brain for some way of scaring it off or at least out smarting it.Even the dog has joined in on this full fledged war against a renegade fuzz bucket.Have you ever tried to out smart an animal in any way?Did you succeed at it and what was it?You must think im bored don't you, hehe!Sometimes they are actually more smarter than we are.:/

With your feeders positioned like that I'm surprised it's a squirel thats the problem & not a cat. Those thing's are a trap waiting to happen. Their low to the ground & hanging right beside an easily climable pole. You could at least make it a challenge for him, hang them higher & further out on a branch or something with more line between the feeder & branch. Birds will still be able to get it but he'll have to work harder to get any.

If he's just getting what the birds drop let him have it. They can still have what's in the feeders. I'd put some food out for him somewhere too.

I guess i will just have to let it win, hehe!I did put nuts and seeds out for it and also popcorn, but holy moly it eats like theres no end and then goes and hides the rest in the tree.Im like "DUH!!" its in plain view! Then i got sick of feeding it,it started to cost more than the birds, lol.I think i brought this upon myself when i first fed it.

Its true, but when the snow is all gone its very high from the ground, the squirrel cannot get into the feeders and eats whats spilled on the ground, thats why its hoarding all the food on the ground for it that has been dropped out.Ive tried putting them in the tree on branches but the squirrel hangs upside down and chews the top of the feeders or does a big jump and grabs onto it and chews the perches off for the food to fall out.He climbs down the rope like an acrobat. Most of the limbs on the tree behind the feeder are weak and bendable.

Squirrels are funny buggers..LOL Well at least you now have your dog on your side with this little private war of yours I actually outsmarted an animal once. This was years and years ago...for about two weeks a beautiful parakeet had been flying loose in the neighborhood...no doubt got loose from it's owner. It was late September and starting to turn chilly. Now what was unusual was that he would fly with a bunch of sparrows to try to get the birdseed tree we had out on the fire-escape. I was thinking that parakeet won't live much longer with the cold weather coming, so decided to capture it. At the time I already had a bird, but I also had an extra empty cage and put it out on the fire-escape with some food inside hoping the parakeet would go inside and I could capture it--well yup that parakeet would go inside but as soon as it saw me looking at it from the window would fly out...drat. So then I did a "trap" thing...I tied a string to the opened cage door...let it the string trail inside into my apt. then would take long watches hidden near the window...the one time the parakeet goes inside the cage, I yanked at the string making the cage door close..and bingo..got that bird--he, Cisco remained my pet bird for many years --But hey, outsmarted him...hehe :)

Funny, Cisco never really adapted to being caught really. I have no idea how long he must have been free and flying around loose with his sparrow friends..I kept his cage in the window and he'd go nuts when he'd see the birds flying outside...like he missed them..Oh, he was "tame" enough but just kind of aloof in personality...so different from my other bird, Cheeky who would sit on my shoulder..or climb on my head and preen my hair..but I guess like people animals have different personalities too, right?

Haha! That's so funny. War on the squirrel, eh, it kind of reminds of of Donald duck waging war on the 2 chipmunks, chip and dale. hehe.

LOL So funny! You sound like me with the squirrels. The squirrels at my house are sooooo bad. They eat all my bird food and just take over.So I send my cats out there to chase them.heheheheh That always works. But not for too long my cats can never get them so they give up and come in. Oh well at least I tried.LOL I wish you luck with getting those bad little squirrels.LOL

LOL that is just so funnY! but i can understand what you went through. i've waged war too against some pesky animals. ^__^;; and you're right, they are actually more smarter than we are. and i think that what makes them smarter is their hunger! i've tried to outsmart some neighbor's cats because they would always come in our house and mess with our trash bags. it seems that our neighbors are not feeding them so they are go anywhere and search for foods. they just seems desperate that's why they do anything to get to our trash bags. good thing rainy days are here. they are afraid to go out and get wet. LOL hey, go easy with that little creature. it might do something more terrible like eating your clothes! LOL

Why is it I am getting flashes of the movie "mouse trap" in my head. If the squirrel sends you down a flight of stairs in a bath tub into a frozen pond please allow me to be the first one to know. That is what I keep picturing while reading this post. If the squirrel gets the best of you be a good sport and admit it ok? LOL good luck in your ventures. LOL

Wow...you really don't like that squirrel. I've never had problems with the squirrels we've had around us. I always put bird feed out for the birds and nuts out for the squirrels or dried corn. They get that and they leave the birds alone. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

When I read the title to this discussion I thought at first that you were talking about here in mylot. the reason I say this is because I have made an enemy here by stating my opinion on a couple of his discussions that he didn't like and he hates me now, even to the point he has taken me off his friends list. This was not my intention when I posted those replies and I told him so by stating "in my opinion". So back to what your discussion is about. I have not had any problems with troublesome animals. But your problem with this is kind of funny. I hope you win the battle.
