Cool, imponderable question. I would say it may be both. On a spiritual level the soul may have always existed but is also constantly being "formed" out of our experience. The concepts of karma, which is foundational to the belief in reincanation, and spiritual transformation, essential for the judeo/christian belief in regeneration, seem to say so.

The soul, according to many religious and philosophical traditions, is the self-aware essence unique to a particular living being. In these traditions the soul is thought to incorporate the inner essence of each living being, and to be the true basis for sapience, rather than the brain or any other material or natural part of the biological organism. Some religions and philosophies on the other hand believe in the soul having a material component, and some have even tried to establish the weight of the soul. Souls are usually considered to be immortal and to exist prior to incarnation.

Thanks... but if the design does indeed exist then is god the designer or do we design our own fate through choice's we make?

the human soul is immaterial. there are things u can't explain, like the mind what is that, or feelings. and there also was a research about babies, if u let them do things alot that part of there brain will grow. and the soul will also learn more about it. i think that we had the soul when we were born, but it was like clay. you can shape it the way your parents raise you.

This is the beauty of the human soul - its capacity to love, make us all see that we leave an indelible mark in the lives of people we might not even know actually exist.
