You can stop a particular program from running at start-up by going to Start Run. Now, type msconfig and goto Startup tab. Remove tick for those you do not want. Now, Windows's applications that start at start-up and provide so or the other function of the operating system are called Services. Now, you can control even these services. In the same msconfig window, goto Services tab. Alternatively, goto Control Panel Administrative tools Services. Here you will find a list of services along with its description. This method is recommended as stopping a needed service may give problems. Just though i would share some of my knowledge to those who need. Just back after a long gap of 3 months. So Hi to all my friends and everyone.....

Welcome back to mylot. Thanks for sharing this useful information with all of us but one thing I want to know is why would we want to shut down one of your system services. Is it ok with the operating system and it will not have any effect at all.At time Ia have notices some of my system services consuming a lot of system resources and thus resulting in slowing down the pc.Can I shut those services "OFF" since the only says "SVCHOST.EXE"

See, Windows starts many services at start-up and stops most that are not used. But some services like Print Spooler are not stopped even though you have no physical or virtual printer installed, Window's default Security is not liked by all, etc etc so these services can be stopped. SVCHOST is Service Host. It is an application that hosts other services. Let me explain. You might have seen a very big list of services in msconfig. But you won't find a corresponding process in the Task Manager. That is because, the Service Host "hosts" a group of Services. And many times, you will find more than on svchost.exe entry in Task Manager. In brief, you won't be able to stop all svchost.exe files. Goto Services in Administrative tools and read the description before stopping a service, restart your computer, work for sometime. If you find any problem, re-enable the services. Thats it. If you still have problems or doubts, feel free to ask. Bye...
