On buying a brand new digital camera

I've been taking pictures on many things and I really love doing it. However I'm only using the camera integrated with my phone at 2 megapixels. Now I'm planning to buy a digital camera this coming months. Maybe around 10 megapixels with good zoom will do. But what brand or model can you suggest to a fresher's budget?
